I do not have any info on this product, only the pic I found. I searched Bardahl's website and this product is not on it. I am not promoting this, I just found it interesting an additive that is supposed to upgrade your GF4 oil to proposed GF5 specifications and thought I would share.

Yea, I doubt many people will even know when oil becomes SN/GF5, they will just continue to buy oils and that is all they need to do.

I think I remember this name from the 1950s, they had a product they said removed sludge from the engine, there were these cartoon characters called " Blacky Carbon, Dirty Sludge, and Sticky Rings, and Bardahl got them all, lol, u can find the vintage add on the net, type in blacky carbon,,my my, Im old...

This just goes to show you can make anything and people will buy anything.

It is a nice looking bottle.

CourierDriver, you are correct, we are getting old. I remember those characters.

Interesting product.

Most oil additive are to take oil BACK an API level (ie, from SM to SL)....first one I've ever seen to take it FORWARD!

I'd imagine it has some form of friction modifier in it, to help with the FE requirement of GF-5.

Or, it COULD be an ester/ZDDP additive, to reduce the volatility of the add-pack to meet the valatility requirements of GF-5.

Back when Bardahl was in Seattle, I bought an oil from them we used in pumps and generators that was the best for that application I've ever used. It was called something like "Bardahl 30 weight/Racing 60", or words to that effect. I tried using it in my M/C wet sump and the clutch would not engage, just spun when I tried to go.

Haa...haaa! Just to show that these otc "messiah-in-a-can" will never go away: they just keep spinning newer, fancy packaging with unknown (or known but ineffective in anything, meaning no damage/harm done) stuff inside.

Those who keeps staying on course with the mentality believing that modern engine oils DO require additves will buy them like hot cakes.....

Boy! Don't you just luv this capitalistic automobile market in North America where anything sells (so long as the spin doktors spin them hard enuf)

*grin*

That is where I found it. Went to see if there was an MSDS on Bardahls site and the product isn't even on the site.

Just wait for the new motor oils to come out. Pennzoil or Exxon/Mobil or Valvoline or whoever will develop motor oils that are plenty good enough with the new requirements.

Hello - so is there anything to this "friction modifier technology" stuff anyway? I found an additive that uses a GF-4 oil as its delivery fluid and wondered if there was anything to it.

I have no plans on using it. I just saw it and found it interesting as it is supposed to make the oil meet upcoming specs now and thought I would share. Most on here like to see an MSDS or PDS which is why I looked for one.

It is interesting. And I agree that instead of telling people you need the antiwear stff from the older oils they instead are trying to upgrade the current motor oils to the new standards.

I would not use it either. The newer oils should be coming out before too long. It might be more interesting trying Lubro-Moly.

Sounds like a product for OCD people will buy who have a stash of oil that want to upgrade it to the latest and greatest. IMO going from SL to SM was a step backwards for many people with older cars. I'm wondering if the newer oils will be another step back. Marketing and hype can make any product look good prior to releasing it. I guess the only way to tell his after a few months on the market, and the real world reports we'll find here on Bitog start rolling in. New products are usually a good time to buy closeouts, and then look for price increases on the new stuff. JMO
