Banks differential covers

My 2000 Silverado 3/4 ton has 295,000 Miles with a Mag-Hytec most of its life, and im about to rebuild the rear diff for the 3rd time, The last rebuild was 48,000 miles ago and now my Pinion bearing are making noise, and im convinced after watching th banks videos its the cover, Banks doesnt make a cover for my application (14 bolt, w 9.5" ring gear), so im going back to stock cover...

That's a quick failure, I highly doubt the Mag-Hytec cover is the root cause.

Interesting that PPE now offers a contoured diff cover.

I like the banks videos. There is a lot to learn on some of his engineering breakdowns.

His testing proved the OEM finned aluminum diff cover is all the upgrade I'll ever need.

those Banks covers look nice... whether they accomplish any positive benefit besides a nice look is up to debate.

Wonder how my Dana 80 has made it this far (445k) with mostly fifth wheel towing, without it…

Towing is surely factored in. Some maximum continuous power rating, at some ambient temperature is factored into the design. Being the simplest part of the drivetrain more or less, they tend to be bulletproof unless way undersized.

Id argue that a temp test for your situation and worst case use is prudent.

I won't argue the fact that rear has 450K miles so my point may be moot, and not to sound offensive but for the sake of science...😎..that looks pretty gooey in there, unless all that metal is supposed to be black from the factory. Curious to your fluid choice and drain interval as that looks like the fluid might have been a little hot.

That’s black paint afaik. And if not, it works perfect. It has seen heavy loads all its life, and I don’t have all the history.
