So I was looking at a PL14610 I had for another car that I never used and found this protrusion into the center tube. There are no signs of the filter ever being dropped or anything to damage it. Sorry about the pictures its kind of hard to get the camera to focus down the center tube.

Hard to say with those photos ... but looks like it might just be a deformed hole in the center tube?

I like how we have another topic started about someone exchanging their Driveworks filters for something better, and PureOnes are mentioned as being "better". Then this thread pops up.

I'd rather use a PureOne with a deformed center tube hole then a cheapo filter.

looks to be pretty close to the bypass valve. Can't tell from the pic if the defect would affect the bypass valve operation. Or if the filter media is damaged.

A couple years ago I bought a WIX filter which has a similar style center tube. One of the center tube holes still had the round tab, that should have been punched out, connected and sticking out into the middle of the filter. I took a screwdriver and pushed on it. It seemed to be secure enough, so I used it. And of course when I did the next oil change I checked to see if it was still there. It was.
Now I always give filters a pretty thorough visual inspection. Just bought 2 Purolator Classics yesterday.

The core was probably dented just a little at the bottom while waiting in the assembly line. It happens. You're probably fine, but if it's bothering you and an exchange is not a hassle...I'd just exchange it to not worry about it.

The dent doesn't appear to be bad enough from the picture that the core didn't get sealed off in the plastisol in the endcap. As above though...piece of mind for the price of an exchange may be in order here...
