Hello,

My daughter is in town and I'm doing an OCI on her Volvo XC90. My question is when I removed the oil filter housing something seems to be missing. I know the last time I did an OIC on this car, there was this center platic tube that holds the oil filter. I looked everywhere underneath the engine and and the old oil filter but I can't find it. So I asked my daughter if she ever had serviced the car. She told me she had an change done at Jiffy Lube several months ago.

Is this center tube important, or it just holds the oil filter upon installation.

looks like its a support cage for the filter. unless you have a filter that has one as an integral part with the filter I would feel it's important to be there.

Wix appears to have this cage on their filters

Since any filter (OEM or aftermarket) speced for that engine should be designed to work without modifying the oil filter cap, seems that piece in the cap should be there.
