time for another oil change on the 01 camry 1MZ-FE approx 188,000 miles

many people recommended that i use PP and a P1 filter to clean out the possible sludge buildup in this "sludge-prone" engine.
i noticed that the engine ran alot quieter with PP. However i am a full time college student and synthetic oils can put a dent in my wallet.

i will continue to use a P1 filter since i ordered 6 off amazon for a really great price (and free shipping!)
however i am looking for a good dino to use since it is cheaper. i plan to do a 3k oci. the car is driven about 30 miles daily local/highway (40%/60%).

i hear it is not only the oil but also the "add pack" that makes it a great oil.
if there are any dinos priced around 10-15$ (5qt jug) that would do a good job cleaning out this engine that would be great.

thanks!

Valvoline MaxLife Syn/Blend 5w30

I would suggest a 2500 OC & filter change to remove the 'sludge' (You'll be surprised how black your oil will be).

After that 5000- 6000 OCI will be OK, especially with that PureOne filter...

If you live near a Walmart go with Motorcraft 5W-20. It's only about $12.50. Folks here love it. The more you read on here, the more you'll notice, that if Ford puts its name on something it's not only top notch but fairly priced as well.

+1

would a 3k OCI with a quality dino be okay?
or would i be able to squeeze a few more miles out of the oil?

You could go for Pennzoil YB, Valvoline WB, Quaker State GB and run them for 4,5K miles with no trouble.

Guarantee on back label states proven protection from oil related engine failure for 5000 miles or 6 months excluding severe conditions. If your car is under warranty follow the oil life sensor.

4000 mile OCI on a good quality dino should be fine. Run a few 4K mile dino OCI's then a 4000-5000 mile PP OCI maybe for the winter months to clean the engine up a bit more aggressively. It would be nice to have a run of PP now and then to do a deeper cleaning if your wallet will allow. Just my opinion.

Id run 4k on Pennzoil Yellow Bottle or Quaker State.

If you can get a hold of Kendall GT1 or Trop Arctic syn blends go for those. I can get those for under 3 bucks a quart.

I've seen Kendall GT1 High Millage syn blend for about 3 dollars a quart at Pepboys

PYB is one of the more expensive conventional oils in my area. If I were on a tight budget, and the cost difference between PYB, and PP was an issue, then I would choose the MotorCraft 5w-20 oil at walmart. Without debating which one is the better oil between the PYB and MC, there is no debate on which one is the better price !! I have ran both in my 02 Accord, and although my engine is not sludge prone, the MC oils took the 7500 mile OCI just as well as the PYB.

It has been mentioned here many times, and I agree of all the oils, sales, rebates etc MC in the jug from walmart may be the best deal going on oils.

Back from Fla. in time to change your oil, and shovel snow. Good idea mixing the dino with some syn. especially in winter. That way you get the best of both worlds. Me, I mix Mobil 5,000 with PP and so far looks good.
