Baby hummingbird - amazing!

"This is actually an amazing story about a baby hummingbird that I found
on a sidewalk. He couldn't fly, so I took him under my wing. At night, he
would come home to our house for safety. During the day, he was in the
backyard of the house near where I found him. About 4 days after I
found him, I was holding him in my cupped hands when his mama came
by to feed him. She had seen me around, I guess, because she just flew
over, perched on my hand and then fed him.

This happened a number of times, so I called a friend who is good with
a video camera, and he came over to film some of the amazing goings
on that I told him about.

There's a lot more to this story, but that's enough info to give you some
context for the video we posted to YouTube."

I don't think it was Drew who did this, it was someone from Florida.

It was a gentleman named Peter Tommerup from Saratoga, CA in June of 2007 (which is why it's called "Peter and Peeps"). I agree that it was not Drew, despite the claim in the original post.

Hummingbirds are not scared of humans at all. On many occasions I've had them fly right up to me while I was watering my plants because they wanted to get wet. There's also a nursery that had one nest in a small tree for sale. Customers would stand 3 feet away and gawk at it, but it was never afraid enough to fly away or find a new home like most other birds would.

Unfortunately, many animals that aren't afraid of humans become extinct. Hopefully that doesn't happen

I've been in my house 33 yrs. It is off the road, backing up on a fresh water marsh. Town owned conservation land. IE, too wet to do anything with. The bird life is plentiful and varied. What has declined is the snakes and amphibians. Every summer , there are more humming birds. Last yr, I saw one perch on our cable wire. First time I ever saw one sitting still.
