Has anyone had experience with these? I'm looking into the PBR ULT Ceramic pads for my friends car. The car is an '04 G35X.

I wonder how they compare to the Bendix CT-3 (which are not made for this vehicle) and the Centric Posi Quiet Ceramic (105.XXX) pads.

Not the ULT's... I'm running the Axxis Deluxe Advanced ceramics on my BMW and love them. But the reason I switched to them from the BMW pads is they are far less dirty and offer similar braking performance to the OEM pads. I understand the ULT's are great pads, performance-wise, but do not offer the dust reduction many are looking for. It all depends on what you are looking for in a pad.

With only 9400kms on OE pads to clock, I just retrofitted my fit front pads with Akebono ProACT 621 ceramics and I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed: very crisp, immediate/direct response from the pedal.

Derek128 used Hawks before (and he's gonna do that shortly on his B16 Si-R) and while it's not ceramic, it's something that he likes alot.

Q.

Can't argue with Akebono's either. I ran the Akebono EURO Ceramics on my Volvo and loved them. Would have probably tried them on my BMW had I been able to find the right pads for my model. The AXXIS Deluxe Advanced ceramics were readily available.

Just ordered PBR ULT Ceramic pads for the front and rear of my friend's '04 Infiniti G35X, along with new front and rear Centic 120.XXX rotors.

He also received a brake flush today with the Valvoline SynPower brake fluid. Hopefully with this combo he will be good to go!

I'd think twice before installing those, they tend to offer great performance at the expense of horrible dust, noise (on some vehicles) and a short lifespan. Be sure that you friend is aware of these possible attributes before you install these pads.

What's the best route for this G35? I'd highly recommend the Bendix CT-3 pads as I've had excellent experience with them on a '03 Altima 3.5SE and '99 Maxima SE. Unfortunately, they don't make them in the G35 application. The Centric Ceramic pads are okay pads but may sacrifice performance. Was OEM really the way to go?

I still think OEM is the best choice for this car.

However, the Bendix CT-3s are available. The Bendix catalog is wrong. Raybestos, Centric, etc all recommend a "815 style" pad for the front, and and a "905 style" pad for the rear. Bendix does have a D815CT and D905CT pad available, and those should fit the car just fine.

i like the PBR metalmasters for GM f-bodies. good grab and bite and dust not excessive. Our calipers were also made by PBR for GM so it's practically an OEM replacement

Thanks for the Bendix info. Since my friend is looking for performance, we've ordered the PBR ULT ceramic pads. When he installs them and after they are broken in, I will compare them to the OEM pads I have on my '04 G35 and see if I feel any difference. I'll report back with the results.

I've bedded them in today for my friend by doing eight consecutive 60-10 mph semi aggressive slow downs, than driving the car for 5 miles to let the brakes cool and did the same procedure again.

The brakes seem to be pretty good and may even become better once they are fully broken in. They have very little fade.

One thing I did notice is that they are not initially as grabby when compared to OEM Infiniti pads/rotors but this was something many Infiniti owners complained about. Last i heard, Infiniti changed their formula on the pads to make them less grabby.

There is no squealing yet when driving forward, but there was a slight squealing when backing up with the PBR pads. The rotors that are paired with these brakes are Centric 120.XXX with a black rust proof coating on the hub.

Were the OE shims reused?

I'm not sure if the OE shims were reused as I was not the one performing the work on the car. I imagine that old shims were not re-used and were thrown out.

If shims were installed than they were re-used as new shims were not purchased with these aftermarket pads.

Update: Had my friend call the mechanic that worked on the car and ask about the shims. He said he did not use shims and threw the old ones away since PBR pads already come with shims attached.

Could this be the root of the noise?

I am running these pads front and rear on my BMW. They give at least 90% of the "grab" of the factory BMW pads, and eliminate 98% of the black brake dust on the rims. Basically, my rims have gone from a black dust disaster to almost none (like regular cars). All in all, I am very pleased with these pads. The change was for the brake dust problem alone.
