In Advance Auto today: Common brand motor oil prices seemed high for individual quarts. (Didn't look at big bottles.) Example: Pennzoil @ $4.09 per quart. Advance Auto brand: $2.68 per quart. Am going to wait a few weeks and see if prices come down as world oil price keep falling; under $70/barrel today.

There is always a delay, but don't expect a decrease until demand falls off...if it does.

Agreed. Lets face it, since when have we ever seen a decrease in shelf motor oil prices, except for sales? I mean an across the board decrease. Never seen it, that I know of.
Also: could be a demand fall off if people are using longer change intervals, which may happen at current prices. Just speculation, have to wait and see.
But $4 per quart is a real "sticker shock" for me.

Im one of those guys with a "stash" - picked up 24 qts of PP @ $0.99/ea when they were on sale. At 4 qts/OC, Im set for 3 years!

don't really buy oil at Advance because the prices are steep, prices at walmart are getting steep as well.

perhaps i'll start storing up on durablend while i can still get it at 10 bucks a gallon at a local fleet farm.

Mobil DC 5000 was $11 at my WM tonight, but they had none in 5w30, just 10w30...Mobil 1 was just about non-existant... and PP is up to $23, etc just like everyone else was seeing. However, Havoline DS was $10.88 for a 5qt jug. May have to buy a few of those before they go up too!

Why pay $4/qt for dino when you can get the 5qt synthetic jug from Walmart for $19 (Valvoline), $22 (Castro) or $26 (M1). They also have their generic brand Supertech synthetic for $18.

All of these high prices make specials like the 9.99 deal at Auto Zone look even better. Five qts of AZ oil and an STP filter for under 10. (no rebates needed) is a bargain at today's prices.

I won't have to purchase any oil a couple years thanks to several closeouts I've gotten a hold of over the year or so.

reference points to above comments:

AAP is currently cheaper that Walmart in Huntsville AL for the higher grade oils, including rotella. But they are all only within a few % of each other. I'd rather support AAP.

I did pay an Express Lube place for a valvoline syn OC a few months back. they charged $79, with a $40 markup for syn.

meep,

I don't know how they do it for a profit, but there is a shop in Scottsboro that will do a full-synthetic oil change for $55 + tax, using Syntec and an AC Delco oil filter. Cheaper than that if you stop by the Scottsboro O'Reilly Auto Parts and pick up a free discount card. The card will save you 10% on labor charges. The shop is Russ's Tire and Auto on Willow Street just West of Unclaimed Baggage. FWIW

Wow... makes me wonder how these oil shops stay in business. I'm having to guess that Stiffy Lube and other shops charge close to $40 for a normal dino oil change nowadays... almost 10 quarts of syn oil can be had for that price!?!

Don't hold your breath. Schucks took over all the auto parts stores in our county and then upped all the prices. Seeing all the same high oil prices here.

There is a Havoline Xpress lube in Huntsville that offers a dino oil change (unknown bulk oil) with up to 5 qts. of oil for $18.95. I pass by it every day on my way to and from work. Don't know how they can do it that cheap. Upselling other services, I'm guessing??
