Is AVG any quicker? I moved away from AVG about 2 years ago because their soft become slow and bloated, but may they have improved since?

Noticed your use of Avira. Found this while doing some research on Acronis' site:

Quote:
13. Incompatibility issue with Avira AntiVir. When Nonstop backup is running and Avira performs a system scan, Nonstop backup will fail with this error in the logs: Operation has been aborted. The item essence is incorrect. Probably metadata in the file archive is corrupted

Our Development team is working on this issue and this article will be updated as soon as it is resolved.

MS Security Essentials just released a new version 2.0 that adds network scanning. Supposedly faster as well. I plan on installing tonight.

I've got Avast! on my W7x64 destktop, Avira on my W7x32 desktop and MSSE on my W7x64 Acer notebook - all free versions. I don't believe any of them tax the system much at all. Only downside on Avira was the lack of email scanning. I lean toward Avast! only because I've used it the longest, but I think all offer top-notch protection.

I downloaded it today on 2 PCs. All is well.

Norton is the biggest bloatware out there. It's the first thing I remove from a computer. Avast has to have a lot of options turned off otherwise it's too much. Update it every 1-2 weeks as opposed to every day.

Got MSSE running on two desktops (W7 32-bit and W7 64-bit) and one netbook (XP Home). So far so good. The full scan takes a very long time, but while it's just running in the background, it's fine - haven't noticed any slowdowns really, other than the fact that it takes up about 100MB of RAM. That's 10% of the netbooks entire RAM!

Virus def updates should be done as often as possible.
