Availability of 0W-40 dexos II

Late to the party here. Pennzoil Platinum Euro 5W-40 isn’t really that much more special when compared to their counterparts from Mobil or Castrol.
PPE 5W40 is a 10 TBN 3.5+ HTHS oil and that’s where the similarities end.

Please educate me if you will. Let's say that I have three cars of the exact same year, make and model. All three are cared for equally well as in oil and OEM filter change every 5K miles and all maintenance done with the only difference being the oil of choice. One with PPE 5W-40, one with Mobil 1 0W-40 and last one with Castrol Edge 0W-40. What can I realistically expect to see being different after 5 years and 60K miles of ownership on all three? What type of catastrophic engine related failure and on which car should I expect to see?

Rock Auto has Mobil 1 ESP 0W-40 for $7 and change..

They also have the AC Delco UPF64R filter, which would be my choice…

Castrol 0W30 hard to find? It is available in every AAP at $33+filter for 5qt. Castrol 0W40 has actually more volume sale in Wal Mart than M1. SOPUS doesn’t need SRT 0W40. SOPUS has two 0W40 oils. They could use A3 0W40 oil if goal was just to push M1 out. There is no pushing here. Companies do supplier changes all the time. Daimler is not anymore using M1 but Petronas. BMW used Castrol, then SOPUS and now might go back to Castrol, who knows.
SRT oil might be developed bcs. certain issues/needs around that engine. All of these oils are at cutting edge of technology. There is no way average oil is going to be approved for BMW LL01 considering ridiculous oxidation requirements introduced in 2018. They are cutting edge for given application, engines requiring High-SAPS oils.

My local stores carries Castrol Edge 0W-30 on the shelf. If your store does not have the weight you want in stock, you can ask them to order it and still take advantage of the promotion.

These are just examples from O'Reilly's. Autozone, NAPA and many other auto parts stores do this as well, you just have to be willing to take the time and look for them.
