I went to AZ to get the PU/TG deal they have runnin' this month, $41 for 6qts and a TG16 filter. Not a bad price but bad filter which I don't like. Point of me explaining this is what the guy behind the counter said.

Me- "Can I substitute a filter of lesser value for the TG?" (I had MC in mind)
Guy- "No, but you would not want to do that anyway, you want a more expensive filter like the Frams because they are a higher quality filter."

I politely smiled, paid for my oil and filter and left the store thinking to myself that if only more people would do research instead of making assumptions Fram would step their game up and produce quality filters (Excluding Extended Guard).

I would have responded that his opinion was fine and dandy, but repeat the request that I'd prefer to substitute the Fr*m filter for a filter of my choosing, even if the store would come out ahead on the deal...

Just make me, the customer, happy... Is that too much to ask?

My oil change schedule is as follows:

May-Oct 6 mo
Nov-Jan 3 mo
Feb-April 3 mo

I know its a bit odd but it is because of warranty, once warranty expires I'll be doing two 6 month changes. Anyway, which oil change would the TG be best suited for? The longer OCI due to the warm temperatures or one of the short OCIs due to the short duration?

I don't understand why some (okay, most) Autozone employees have to be jerks. I work for autozone on the weekends. If we are out of a filter and I have one of another brand in stock, I'll just type in a common Fram (assuming fram is the deal that month) number and hand them the other filter. It all balances out in the in. We just inventory out filters once a month to reset them and we keep the customers happy.

If we are out of a filter, or a customer wants a different one, and I have one of another brand in stock, I'll just type in a common Fram (assuming fram is the deal that month) number and hand them the other filter. Our 'local' AZ does this for me too. Unfortunatly, the last time I went there, one of the employee's gave me a time about the used oil I was bringing in. Since I had four 1-gallon jugs and one 5 quart jug, he automatically assumed I was bringing in more than my 5 gallon maximum. Well, my 5 quart jug wasn't full. But whatever. Because of the way I was treated I will no longer buy parts/oil from there. Advance Auto recieved my patronage for those things now.

I bring oil in a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. They always have a freak out moment, followed by a calming moment - not sure why. Like it takes them a second to recover from the OMG part of it.
