Anyone still use sun shades? Do you have a preference?

Looking to protect the 18 year-old slightly split dash board on my Toyota. I park my vehicle in a high-sun area during the day at work.

Seen covercraft, weathertech, etc to name a few - just wondering for those who still use them, which brand did you go with?

Heatshield! Slightly crack a back window to reduce heat build up during the day.

Short of shades customized for your exact vehicle, I found Magic Shades to work very well for generics. They "fold" into a small ~8" circle when not in use. Unfortunately I'm not sure if the brand name version is still available. I have a couple aftermarket ones that are a lot flimsier, but still work.

I tried generic folding ones that are held up by suction cups and the suction cups don't last and they take up too much space when not in use.

I'll have to look at what brand mine is as I've had it for years. Skip the accordion style fold up ones. I've never had more than a couple of years go by before they start to sag/ fall out of the window.

I find them to be a pain to retrieve from the back seat, install when parking to only have to remove and toss in the back seat on the next ride. Plus, the kids in the back are annoyed when I toss the shade on top of them after removing it from the windshield.
LOL. This reads like one of those goofy infomercials where the actors struggle doing something that is ridiculously easy to do.

I have this style in my cars. Fairly cheap on Amazon and Temu.

I have a Heatshield brand shade. Nice quality and custom fit to my car. Between the sun shade and window tint it definitely makes it better.

Its 100 degrees in San Antonio, I use the custom fit ones from amazon that are made from thick reflective material. Any of those grocery store or walmart ones literally get limp and fall apart.

As others have already said, there are plenty of sun shades and dash mats that can do the job very well.

One other thing that you may want to consider, and I know it sounds crazy but it does really work. If you put some towels on top of your rear speakers where your rear glass is, that can lower the temperature quite a bit as well and in some cars, you won't have the cracked or smashed speaker covers. They're all too common when I go to the auctions.

I'm in Georgia though. If you're in the northern states, don't even bother.

Chrome accordion for us in TX always. It was a hassle with radar detector back in the day, and dashcam until now but my Garmin has a magnetic disc to stick it to the window. Love it. If possible I point the truck away from the sun when I park and let the camper shell take the heat. 2001 Tacoma dash still like new, parked at the Plant in the sun for most of it's life.
