My 98 Camry is 2000 miles into the first clean cycle. However, I did notice one thing that mpg changed from 29mpg to 26mpg. How many of you has such experience that the fuel consumption is going up instead of going down as we expected? According to Auto-Rx web site that many users gained mpg during with the Auto-rx in their engine. How come I have different experience.

Odds are its the winter blend gas that is causing mpg to drop, along with the engine running richer during start up because of the lower temps. I'm willing to bet mpg increases again once we're through with the winter blended gas.

Welcome.

I really doubt that the ARX caused a fuel economy decrease.

Too many other variables in the mix. Total coincidence.

Winter gas, usually lose a few MPGs this time of year. The only thing I have noticed on a Clean cycle with ARX (in several cars) is slightly more engine noise/tick, which goes away at the next oil change (may be attributed to the filter getting loaded up?).

Winter gas is one issue. But cold temperatures can lead to poor mileage, especially if most of the driving is short trips. Motors run a rich fuel/air ratio until the motor is up to full operating temperature.

Winter gas is my first doubt regarding such change in the gas mileage. However, even the last couple of winters my car still got about 28mpg. I wonder if the auto-rx in the engine changes the viscosity of the oil. You know, the thicker the oil, the less gas mileage it gets. Besides, NJ isn't that cold this year so far. The coldest days are usually in February.

No it does not go to http://www.auto-rx.com and take a few minutes to read about Auto-Rx or read the post I just put up. "Auto-Rx How it Works In Plain Speak"

Let me try this if your oil flows so does Auto-Rx (Auto-Rx uses your oil as a carrier only, it never changes your oil chemistry or viscosity) Hope this helps.
