ok not sure if this has been covered here, but has anyone ran auto Rx in a tractor and what amount of time did you run it since there isnt an odometer, but rather the hour meter.

The only oil that sees the inside of our tractor is mobil 1 15w-50. (1950s ford 800)

Do you have sludge problems? I've always been very skeptical of anything that you can pour into an engine that will magically clean it up. If it's that bad, I'd pull it and clean it.

I would skip trying ARX in a non turbo charged small diesel tractor. ARX needs heat to do its job properly and small diesel tractors do not put enough heat into the oil for it to work properly.

As an example I was working my little diesel tractor last weekend tilling and doing some land scaping around the house. When I was done I stopped the tractor and grabbed my sample pump so I could send it in for testing. I pulled the sample and it was warm but no where near the kind of heat a gasoline has right after shut down.

no there are no problems and auto rx isnt some magical potion, its proven to work and do its job. It isnt necessarily to be a mechanic in a bottle rather to insure an engine remains clean. The tractor runs great and has no problems, I dont recall asking "should I use auto rx in my problem tractor". But I asked for someones experience that had used it in an hour meter environment rather than mileage....

Well besides the heat issue you would need to leave it in for roughly 100 hours. Depending on your useage that could be 1 year before you do the rinse and then a 2nd year doing the flush. I use Ford's spec of 33m/1hr of idle time for a rule of thumb.

Amsoils new engine and transmission flush appears to be worth a look.

thanks thats what my main concern is is getting enough hours on the tractor to justify......I posted the question with Frank. I wasnt aware of the new amsoil flush, but if I was going to use a flush id probably go the lubegaurd route. Sorry to come off ownery Im just tired of auto rx nasayers ive used it and been pleased. I get tired of it getting bashed and put in as a snake oil.......

I understand, I'm not trying to poo poo ARX, I don't think it would be the best option for the application however. Next time you run your tractor do some heavy work and then put you hand on the oil pan/sump. It will be cooler then you expect.

lol yes they do run cool, something about being a large heavy cast iron 3 cylinder diesel with little horsepower

To warm up our 45 HP gas tractor takes some serious work. To get the oilpan to painful human contact temperatures requires at least an hour of mowing stuff you can barely see over.

My mom has a John Deere 1520, similar type setup as yours. 3 cyl non turbo diesel. The only time that really seems to get the oil really good and hot is when I use it for brush hogging my hunting trails, I run about 3/4 throttle, and it is run hard for a good 2-3 hours. If you run some long hours, it might be worth a try, but as was already said above, you need to keep the oil hot for it to work well. I think Tater has it right, 100 hours would probably be equivalent to 3000 miles.
How many hours a year do you run it?

I run about 40-60 hours, im second guessing auto rx
I have had good luck with the lubegard flush, with my limited timeline. I think I might use that so I dont need to run the auto rx rinse phase for a year lol
