I've noticed that my gas mileage isn't too good since i put in auto-rx.....I am 500 miles into the cleaning phase and i am only getting about 230 miles a tank with my 98 mustang gt. Can auto-rx cause this while it is cleaning? Not worried too much cause i know i have been using the a/c and a ton of variables exist but just want to know.

I agree with sprintman. Unless the motor was really filthy and the oil is now suspending massive amounts of contaminants so as to thicken the oil. That would be a very marginal drag.

I dropped about 1 MPG during my treatment. The same thing occured on the wifes Camry. Maybe just luck, who knows for sure. But I track every tank and that is what I recorded. John

Frank,

My recorded drop was during the clean and rinse cycles. Follwing these the mileage returned to normal.

I doubt that either engine was in serious need of cleaning as the disected filters showed minimal deposits.

I was curious about the drop during the clean and rinse periods though. I can't imagine what would cause this so I chalked it up to luck and nothing more. Any ideas on this? John

Somewhere you had contaminants or dirt or Auto-Rx would not have altered gas mileage during clean and rinse cycle.

After you finish application all returns to normal, go on maintenace plan if not satisfied N/C if so than check one last filter.

Frank,

Sorry, I must have worded this poorly. I'm very pleased with the results and I'm sure that I've gotten good results. I found gritty material in the filter pleats of the rinse cycle in both of our cars that I have treated. I assumed this to be carbon from the ring packs

I just finished the Camry and will be checking the compression this weekend and plan to report the results when they are available.

I was just curious about the "Why" and nothing more. Your answer here is sufficient to quell my curiosty.

I am helping a friend treat two Toyota trucks now and will report the results when we have finished. The rinse filter of the first treatment of the two it needs showed very dark oil and some more gritty material in the filter. I have images and will report the results of this treatment when we have completed it as well.

Thanks for a fine product, I'm a very happy user.

John

On my crown vic at about 500 miles into the treatment my mileage went up a crazy amount.

This time around on my Aspire (it's been a while sine I cleaned it) my mileage stayed the same throughout both phases. Now that I'm on fresh oil it went up roughly 2 mpg.

So it's different for everybody and every car.

I agree with both of the above, and never meant to cast doubt about the product.

On my Echo I need all the power that I can get to haul me, 180#, and my 250# passenger over the costal mountain range to San Jose and back. I surmize that all of the benefits I received from my treatment of this engine went to improved performance not economy because of how I operate the poor little engine. Can my personal butt detect the difference? Only marginally if the commute is favorable. When the traffic allows me to operate the engine as I would prefer I do see improvements, but this is based on the on board ScanGauge and by the trip, so it is suspect.

On the wifes Camry I think all bets are off. I've no idea how she operates the thing. Still the measured results are comparable to however she treats it over the long haul, so there may be some value to the readings.

Compression tests are yet to be done, maybe tomorrow if things go well. John

I guess it depends on whether the rings are stuck. When it improves compression, mileage goes up and a 1 mpg loss could be due to something as simple as increased viscosity. Small price to pay for long term engine health.

Perhaps the arx has it running a bit better which is causing you to enjoy the better performance. I just finished a clean cycle on my bike & am about 400 mi into the rinse. Mileage is up slightly but it is more enjoyable to twist the throttle which partly explains why mileage didn't go up more

Running the ac kills mileage, we have 2 identical cars & whichever one I am driving gets at least 5 mpg more. Partly because I drive easier but mostly because the wife runs the ac all the time & I don't.

Volvo 960 70K miles
Before Auto-Rx 26.3 mpg
During Clean and Rinse 27.4 mpg
First oil change 28 mpg
Second oil change 28.8 mpg as of last weekend.

All MPG were at 65 mpg highway.

Says a lot about how dirty my engine was with 5K mile dino oil changes.
