Pizza for meeting a store sales goal.... ?
How about a cash bonus like a normal job.

Because a lot of jobs don't give cash bonuses any longer. Often it's credits for merchandise.
All this kid is full of kid stuff complaints. He will soon be unemployed complaining how he never has had it fair. Well kid grow up and life is not fair. Your parents did you a disservice by not teaching you this important lession.

Yeah, he should just call in sick and find another job. That's what it means when you call in sick on a holiday anyway, that you're in the middle of finding another job or you're about to be fired. Doesn't sound like it's that great a job anyway.

A real trusted employee would just bring all this up with their boss instead of bellyaching about it all over the internet. Having that kind of conversation should enlighten you as to whether you have the value you seem to think that you have to your store. (The stories of the only reason the store hits is goals is me, I'm the only one who always shows up for my shifts (yet you are going to call in sick), they didn't give me my day off, so I'm just going to Bell it...)

If I were the boss, and this is the pettyness that came up, I'd say deal with it or leave if you are that unhappy. Retail stinks.

So are you working Thursday or what?

On the fence. I think my plan is: call in an hour before and ask if they really need me for such a short shift, is it slow or what. If they still say come, I'll say I'm feeling sick and still come. Hunch over every now and then, so they say ok go home, but I won't ask to go.

Yeah, I'll still come. But going forward, I asked for all three football days off. And will ask for more well in advance.

I just don't get what's the purpose of a 3 hour shift. Just to cover for others as they take their 1 hour lunch? Almost one hour pay would go to gas money. If it gets busy, they'll ask me to stay longer? Haha. I'll give them back their same line: tell me 1-2 weeks in advance.

It's like wow, congrats. An employee who otherwise was "down" with the store is now disgruntled. Let's see those sale numbers without me. I don't want to say which product, but I literally sold every one of them in the store. It's a category of products that I personally love. Now, as they put two and two together, I hope it clicks in their head that "we should have just gave him that one day off."

I love how people try to call me lazy on here. Haha. Working two jobs. I do 8-12 hours per day. every day. Asking for a day off (a day in the week, thursday, that I asked for off for good a long time ago anyways) is somehow poor character on my part.

What does your wife say about you working on Thanksgiving ?

I say something like this:

I agree with getting proper compensation for sales goals. But it is what it is.

It's just that some unexpected life events happened for me, and at the moment I find myself just trying to get to the start date of a trade school that eventually puts me in a properly compensated category of American workers.

But yeah. I feel myself changing a bit. Complaining about pizza. Missing a football game. Working 3 hours. It's all small stuff in the grand scheme.

I'm just going to focus on how nice my future is going to be God willing.

Bill Walsh in his book said something like find a million decisions and make the right one every time so that the result of the game is never the result of any one decision but a compilation of decisions.

I understand that a 'Pizza Party' is a non-bonus and really isn't a real-life incentive BUT... if you call in sick, you're not sticking it to the evil coporation and maybe not even the management that's treated you poorly, you're doing an injustice to your co-workers, especially if you're not 'really sick'.

It's retail... That's not how retail works, at all. I'm surprised they get anything at all for meeting the store sales goal.

Your reward for meeting sales goals in retail is you have a job. If you don't like what you miss due to your job. Become the owner you can make the hours you want. But under deliver you will lose your business. Calling out tomorrow your peers will have to pick up your slack.

I didn't think Autozone did that anymore. Where we live, there are a dozen or more Autozone stores in the 'metro' area and at one time, (1) of them was designated as their 24-hour operation. It was probably the biggest and always the one with the most stock. If your nearby stores didn't have a part, this one almost always did. I'm not sure when it changed, but they're no longer open 24 hours though.
