I'm looking to change insurance companies, the one I use now (Bristol West) is a joke, they don't give you any kind of discount for anything...

I'm 25, never had a ticket, 784 FICO, class A lic... I know there are some insurance companies that weigh these factors and give you good rates based on your credit score, driving history, age, training etc but I'm having a hard time finding out which ones do this.... surely more companies than not prefer to reward safe drivers? I'm paying $67 a month for liability only on a 93 civic, sounds like rape....feels like it too.

Dang, that's over 800 a year! I pay 192 every 6 months for liability and uninsured motorist (property and medical) for my 94 Corolla. I have Farmer's insurance. My butt would hurt paying as much as you do. I even have 2 tickets on my record, but they gave me a mega discount recently when I turned 26. Maybe check Farmers out; they've been great to my family, but then again, premiums have a lot to do with the state and area you live in.

My wife and I have clean driving records and I felt that we were paying too much for our insurance also. I did an online quote at Geico and saved close to 18% per year off of our premium.

Keep in mind that most insurance companies use credit scoring also. Another good reason to make sure you pay your bills on time.

Ever see those State Farm ads for "accident forgiveness"? I don't want such fufu stuff (even though you have to enroll in that program specifically.)

I prefer "total meanie" insurance for liability only. I chose Progressive and am very happy with them. Rates go down every year; they reward their good customers that don't get into wrecks.

Cali recently uncovered in various investigations that zip codes mattered more than most pretended. If you live in a scummy part of town, a move to a nicer place might pay your increased rent back in cheaper insurance.

Allstate is the one w/ accident forgiveness.. I've had State farm for years and use a number of their products.. I even had an at fault accident this summer and my rates didn't go up. I think I pay $25/mo for my 88 pickup with 100k/300k limits (it was like $1 more a month over the state minimum 50k/100k).

rates do vary hugely from state to state though.. when I moved to KY almost 10 years ago, I was paying ~500/yr (in Maine) for insurance on my 87 Toyota MR2.. got to KY and the best I could find was $1200/6 mos(!) for the same limits.

Insurance varies by age, sex, location down town, vehicle and marital status.

I still am mystified that full coverage same deductibles on a 96 Civic(100HP) was $100 more than our 2005 Legacy GT Wagon(250HP) and worth about $19k more. We pay $340 on our Legacy GT and $480 on our Subaru WRX.

My '96 Audi costs me $64 for liability and uninsured motorist per month. I'm in the city and have 21st Century (no tickets, not accidents). CA is expensive.

For the first 100,000 miles I had also comprehensive and collision with a $1,000 deductable. The total was then about $1,200 per year.

There are some great services on the internet for finding the best price and the best agent. I used this service:

www.insureme.com

and found the agent I have had now for 3 years ... plus good savings over my previous company.

Might be worth a try ...

We're paying about $35/month through Progressive for liability + under and uninsured coverage...state minimus, though. One ticket, and not the best credit scores I'm sure. Recently got a quote from a American Family agent in town for about $25/month... so we'll be switching soon.

However, I must say we've been VERY pleased with Progressive. Any mis-haps with American Family and we'll be switching promptly back to them.

Auto insurance is the one entity where a corporation can LEGALLY discriminate against ones' age, race, s_x, financial situation, etc.

Progressive is one of the worst, IMO, because they insure subpar people, and then in the name of keeping their relatives as customers, will send unlimited legal to anyone with a valid claim, to keep from paying the insured amount or anything else. This happened to me, I was screwed over, and have barely received pennies on the dollar, due to their policies. It is companies like this that cause the global issues with regards to insurance, in the name of short-term low costs (i.e. the wal-mart effect vs. the mom and pop store).

I've been using Geico for close more than 10 years I think, and it's been good to me. My 96 Cherokee costs me $60/month, with $100 comprehensive and $500 collision deductible, roadside assistance, and rental car coverage.
I also got a quote for my friend, she switched from Farmer's and saved $20 a month, as well as getting a lower deductible and roadside assistance, rental car, etc.

I like geico.

I'm 24 with two minor accidents (not at fault).

Drive a roush f150 and a thunderbird. Comes to like 78 bucks a month for full coverage on both.

Good people, they lowballed my claim a bit, but got the work done properly on the truck.

I've been with State Farm for many a moon since my Navy days. They even carried me through a spate of tickets in my Navy days when I used to get 65/55 tickets on I64 going back to Oceana NAS. 55 was SO stupid. I was always at sea and drew the conviction back then, was never in the States for the court dates, couldn't fight em. Since then, they've carried my homeowner's, my business liabilty, and the cars for all these years. No claims except for a windshield once. With me they've made out, but even if there's a cheaper rate with another outfit, what a hassle to sort out the issues trying to re-draw coverages, rates and limits, deductibles, what a nightmare. Inertia perhaps, is what keeps me in the fold..

Moral of the story with all these insurance posts:

SHOP AROUND......

I don't think a single insurance company offeres "the best rates". Way too many variables as they are seeking a certain customer set.

it's the #1 criteria they use....it's illegal under prop 80-something which was passed by the voters in the late 80's, it's illegal, we know it, they know it, the state knows it - but no one does anything about it....good luck getting an insurance commissioner in this state that doesn't have their kid's college tuition, their home, cars and entertainment budget paid for by the insurance industry.

Again, insurance companies are the only entity that has the ability to practice legalized discrimination... They are ripoffs and scam artists at their best.

And this comes from someone with no at-fault accidents, no tickets and good rates.

i followed the link above (insureme) and someone called me, they said AIG at $59.83/month with a $139.48 down...but with the down payment I would not have a payment for june or july, so I guess they use it as 2 payments or something....thats pretty good, still rape.
