Auto ins just doubled!

We have it on autopay. Just got a surprise as it's doubled since last month.

2 drivers in their 50's. No tickets or accidents, no glass replacement etc,

The FJ has full coverage. The rest are min required.

Don't see how that's legal. Now I somehow have to scroung up more $$$.
And I would bet all the company executives got bonuses and raises.

I've been going back and forth between Progressive and AAA for years. If you stay with one company, they will keep pushing up the premiums as much as they think they can get away with over time. My credit union is always bugging me to get a quote from their service, which is actually Liberty Mutual. It turned out to be 4 times what I ended up paying for AAA! Shop around. It's a dirty business.

Agree 100%. Shop around. Dirty business.

I renew our policies annually and pay up front. Much cheaper than paying monthly.

Shop around, mine went up 26% in March, no tickets, no accidents, no changes. I shopped around and found that the 26% increase as bad as it sounds was a deal. We're paying for the sins of others and a lot of uninsured drivers on the roads.

California doubled it's mandatory liability limits effective 1/2025.
California experienced significant losses (ex, Wildfires).

It's legal because it's illegal to not have car insurance. One of the greatest racketeering ever.

It depends on the state. Until recently, I think it was July 2024, in Virginia you could just pay the uninsured motorist fee and be done with it.

Uninsured Motor Vehicle Fee

Effective July 1, 2024, the option to pay a fee rather than maintain insurance coverage for your vehicle will be eliminated, and DMV will no longer collect the Uninsured Motor Vehicle (UMV) fee. All vehicles registered in Virginia will be required to obtain an insurance policy that meets Virginia’s liability limits. If Virginia DMV cannot verify the insurance information provided with the insurer, customers should be prepared to show proof of insurance when requested by the Virginia
DMV. If you previously paid the UMV fee, you will need to obtain an insurance policy that meets or exceeds Virginia’s liability limits.

In our latest accident, our parked car (occupied), was hit and the driver just drove off. I had to track them down, which I did successfully and gave their info to the cops.

Did your contract renew? If not, I don’t see how they just arbitrarily charge you more.
