So when I had the 3 year old crafty snow thrower torn apart to rebuild the carb, I had to remove the belt cover to get the muffler cover off to get the carb cover off (whoever designed this thing should have his head shoved in a bucket of ice water a few times). Anyway I ran it with the cover off, and noticed a couple things.
Firstly, the drive wheels get a relatively thick and strong belt, with cogs on it. The auger belt is much thinner, and it's a simple v-belt. Something here seems odd to me, why would the auger belt (the one doing most of the work) have a belt htat seems more likely to slip and break? Makes no sense.
The second thing, is that on the inside of the cover, over the section for the auger drive belt, there was a lot of rubber build up, what appears to be rubber material from the belt worn off during use. The belt itself appeared in fairly decent shape though. Should I be concerned? There was a fair amount of material on the inside of the cover.
And lastly, who the bloody heck designed this thing? I couldn't make heads or tails out of how you are supposed to replace the bloody belts on this thing! It's completely bonkers!
