I received some wireless outdoor speakers for Christmas.

I've connected the wireless speaker transmitter to the "B" speaker outputs of my receiver. The indoor speakers (hard-wired) are connected to the "A" outputs.

However, the way Pioneer receivers are designed, it shuts down the speaker output(s) when it doesn't detect speakers connected to either of the outputs.

1. When I switch the speakers to "B" (wireless) only, the wireless speakers work.

2. When I switch the receiver to "A" only, the indoor speakers work.

3. When "A" and "B" are both switched ON, neither sets of speakers work. I really want to be able to have both sets of speakers working at the same time.

I don't think the transmitter provides enough impedance so the receiver thinks there's nothing connected to the "B" outputs.

I probably need to "fool" the receiver into thinking that there's a speaker load on the "B" outputs. My question is how do I do this? I'm thinking I can put a 1/4 watt resistor of some value between each L&R +/- connection as an impedance load.

Thoughts and/or suggestions? Because of where my equipment is located, hard-wiring outdoor speakers is out of the question, even though the sound quality would be superior.

I don't think it's that it can't power them both, I think it's that they are of different Impedence (OHMS) and it can't support both at the same time. Eg: 4ohms & 8ohms... You may have to change your outdoors to match the same rating as the others to make it work.

Or what you could do is hook them all up to A-Channel and it will work just fine, then you could just put a switch on the wire to be able to turn off the outdoor ones when you don't want them to work.
 
tough call! W/o load, some of the modern SS amps would trip the speaker protection part to avoid further damage.

Equally frustrating is the fact that if you really do "trick" the B-side output by putting on additional dummy load in parallel to your transmitter, your dummy load will instantly becomes a source of power waste. (note: a 4ohms/8ohms wirewound resistor of 20W+ variety comes into mind when I mention "dummy load").

Does your transmitter comes with RCA input signal jacks? if you do, consider hooking it up to the tape output part to get it's signals from there.

Since both A&B channels work individually, it's not the speakers. I think it's related to your amp; it's not designed for both A&B channels to operate at the same time. Your manual for the amp probably documents this.

But it is a strange design. My amp will run both A&B channels at the same time without a problem.
 
I don't know how old your Pioneer amp is, but mine is from the 80's and it has 2 channels A/B with two push style buttons and I can run both channels at once or separately. Works great and is built like a tank. I wish the new stuff today was built this good.
 
The last three head units that I have owned would not allow both A & B to output at the same time. I agree with the "tape out" or "audio out" suggestion if your transmitter has RCA audio in inputs.

To answer a few of the questions:

Yes, I should be able to use both apeaker outputs "A" and "B" together. Provided "real" speakers are connected to the receiver.

The receiver is an old Pioneer. I purchased it in 1980 along with a matching CD player and cassette recorder/player and a pair of Boston Acoustic tower speakers. What I liked about the Pioneer is the synchronized recording capability between the cassette and CD player.
 
Does it have a blue lcd display for the radio frequency and a big tuning nob on the right end? I think we have the same ones... Sherman Tanks they are!

I connected the transmitter to the second CD/Tape outputs and all works the way I want it too.

Stevie, I have an old Pioneer VSX-3600. Black with yellow and red LED display with equalizer and fake surround. It might be older than yours.
