Audi wants $125 for one liter of the referenced fluid, part #G 055 145 A2.

Some service documentation from ZF says it is 75W90 Gear oil that contains 4% of Sturaco FM 1992-KS.

Ravenol sells an exact replacement for this fluid, but they want $65. BG, Chevron and Motul are recommending a 75W90 gear oil w/LSD additive, but Amsoil and Valvoline are recommending a GL-4 75W90 MT oil. Redline's recommending D4 ATF, but I think that's an error so I reached out for further assistance.

Looking for guidance since the owner doesn't want to spend $125 for a liter of fluid on a 15 year old Audi, if possible.

Thanks.

The additive is for the LS function, so do they drive in snow/ice? Autocross? Or have a cottage on some rough hilly roads? I can't imagine the difference between a functioning LSD centre diff and a open centre diff is detectable for nearly all normal driving on wet or dry roads? Maybe if you have extremely bad tires?
I'm sure a VW forum will have lots of people who have run just GL-4 in that diff, see what they've found out.

Additive is for shudder. Apparently the transfer case is known to have NVH issues.

My vote goes to the Motul with LSD additive, considering the fact that ZF calls for a gear oil plus a FM. Everything else I checked keeps pointing back to the OE fluid.
