ATF strainer filter

I am currently flushing my transmission as from the last post.

I don't want to buy a new filter since it isn't paper but a metal screen mesh,
you guys think its alright to just blast and soak with mineral spirits with the gaskets off?
the filter is pure metal, and i think cleaning it would be a good idea.

but it says it doesn't fit which is weird, I don't remember the difference between transmission codes for the 09G MAM and MAN but it will fit the MAM code transmission.

and does anyone know where to get cheap seals and clutch packs for this transmission? I have two of these transmissions.

Not sure which car this is for, mileage, etc.
On our GS350 with almost 80K I replaced the filter/strainer with the Lexus part.
I will continue to service the transmission, but will likely never change the filter/strainer again.

If you are going to the work of pulling the pan, why not change it? I sure would.
 
Mineral spirits leaves a residue. I’d be more comfortable with alcohol or brake cleaner. Idk if safe though

When I sent my Maxima (1999) to have the transmission serviced to a specialist, they drop the pan and removed & sprayed the metal filter with a brake cleaner.
That's all they did. They did not replaced the filter. This was done at 40K and 80K km.

My 98 Sienna had the strainer design. The local Toyota dealer never carried a replacement part. The parts guy said they never changed the strainer. I tried to clean it first time and decided just to get a new one. Don't know if it made a difference, but the tranny shifted flawlessly with my maintenance regime.
 
What is the price of a new filter, versus the time investment, cost of cleaning solvents, and risks and work involved in the process and if it fails? It's not like you can easily inspect it in 1000 miles.

My philosophy is if the labor or risks involved are significant, just replace the part. The equation heavily favors replacing inexpensive parts, which are hard to get to, and also if they fail the result is catastrophic.

EG, a headlight is simple to replace and nothing catastrophic occurs if it fails and failure is readily apparent. A hard to reach spark plug gets replaced with new if I've gone thru the trouble to pull and inspect. A transmission filter - a total messy hassle to pull so I'd just replace with top quality.
