Just got a well running 97 Ford Escort Wagon. I'm planning on doing the fluid changes soon just so I know when they were done. In the owners manual it states the car needs
Quote:
MERCON Multi-Purpose Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-2-QDX
What is that...Mercon? or Mercon V?

I have 2x 4L jugs of this stuff MotoMaster Conventional Multi-Vehicle ATF (rebranded Shell ATF)

It says that it
Quote:
Meets or Exceeds specifications for Dexron3, Mercon, and Mercon V.
Would this be o.k?

MerconV was frowned upon by Ford for plain Mercon applications.
Later on, it was OK'd and preferred!

If you are talking about a manual transmission, don't use either of the ATFs, but Pennzoil Synchromesh, Redline MTL, or Amsoil's fine offerings in a Synchromesh weight.
