Assembly lube is generally high in ZDDP, although not necessarily. there is no legal description. #0 grease is the same as #2 but with less thickener.

In general, it is a bad idea. Exceptions to all rules, like when there are bad seals, but you will have less cooling, less settling of any debris, more emulsification of any moisture, etc.

I do recommend a light grease in steering boxes that once called for heavy oil. Cooling isn't an issue there, nor speed to throw off the grease.

Assembly lube,

Depends the assembly lube need for a auto tranny is comparable to a #1 grade
Assembly lube for a manual trans comparable to #2 or 3 grade,

And yes many lawn mowers commercial grade lawn a garden equipment will use a #00 grease

In gear boxes that are not well sealed,

Blaze, if your seal is made from a rubber type compound. Try some Lubeseal in the gearbox. Google it. If the seal is't cracked it may not stop it but it will help. I have used this product in many applications. It works!
