Comments:

Everything is continuing to track nicely for the engine in your Scion at 50,148 miles. Iron increased a bit but this amount is normal after 10,127 miles oil use interval since iron is the only metal that tracks with use. Silicon is tracking above average, and may be from harmless silicone sealer or spray. Silicon could also show abrasive dirt in the oil, so check the plumbing of your vehicle engine's air filtration system for leaks to be sure. The TBN was 2.0, showing plenty of active additive remaining in the oil. Try up to 12,000 miles next and then check back for another look.

The only way Amsoil SSO would be good to 25K is if you were doing ALL highway driving. JMO

KN = Silicon = Iron. Not that your Iron is bad, but it might have been better.

Agreed, TBN doesn't look like it had another 5000 miles, definitely not 15,000.

This is supposed to be a 35,000mi oil. I don't see how they could answer to that. I know people will chime in "TBN isn't everything" and "You didn't measure TAN" I still don't see in any way how this oil would make it 17.5-35k...this is a 4cyl engine.

I am not bashing Amsoil, I am just about to put some in my Altima I know they are all quality oils and I like to support smaller business when I can I still would not use these oils past severe service intervals. That would have been 17,500mi.

Was this vehicle driven in severe service conditions?

This oil run was 10 months 22 days mixed city/highway driving. Note the Toyota/Scion recommended oil change is 5k.

Seeing as there was ZERO make up oil added during the 10 month, 10k run i say the oil held up nicely.

It would be interesting to see something like Pennzoil Platinum used in this TC for the same interval to see how a $5/quart oil stands up to the abuse vs the $8.50 Amsoil SSO (PC pricing)

I honestly don't even see the need for SSO seeing as the XL line or even the OE might hold up to the same interval with similar TBN after 10k.

It doesn't look like it would have made the 17,500 mile SS application, but probably would just have made the year. For 10,000 miles it did well. Ditch the K&N filter.

WOOT! Everyone likes a good K&N bashing!

For the K&N filter it is going to be changed at 65k midway through the 10k oil run. And I will post results at 70k

Not really a fan of Pennzoil, But let’s see on my next oil run how Motul 8100 X-Lite 0W/30 @ $13.80/quart stands up.

I pay $10.50/quart for Amsoil SSO 0W/30, $12.99 for Mobil 1 EP M-103 oil filter.

You need to change the air filter now, not at 65k.

And you would be better off using PYB and an oem filter for 5k intervals, IMO. You're not getting much value out of the high priced oil and M1 filter.

1)Well do me a favor since it so urgent go buy it and install it for me. Since I don't have the time to bother with it at the moment, and the car is not going to die in the mean while. Much bigger things going on.

2) I do 10k oil change intervals not 5k

3) For all you K&N knockers; you are basing your entire opinion of oiled filters off K&N filters solely. There are other manufacturers besides them. Why not go knock TRD, AEM, aFe and GREEN filters?

4) I post on here to share info for others, not to listen to [censored] on K&N brand filter. If, I never said which air filter I was using there wouldn't be this K&N fuss.

06tC- members post here to share info, get advise, give suggestions, and help one another. The best part is its free. The suggestions to ditch the K&N filter were to help you possibly cut engine wear and get a better future report. If you feel you'd like to keep the filter by all means do so. The tone might have come across as bashing K&N air filters, The reality is many members are speaking from experience and giving you sound advise. Either way good luck

OK, got it. Good luck

Note to self: Do not offer sound advice to 06tc, he does not play well with others.

06tc, you say your not a pennzoil fan, check out the pennzoil platinum UOA posted today (March 1)on the 5.7 Hemi. I would check that out before I spend any more $$ on Motul. I know we have a bug that gets in us sometimes that the most expensive oil is the best, not always so. Just keep that in mind. Thanks for the UOA, lose the K&N air filter, I bet that accounted for some of that iron. Good report none-the-less.
