I’ve been reading, lurking and learning here for a while and would like to post some results from what you have taught me, er, at least I think that I’ve accomplished.
The wifey’s ’96 Camry initially showed signs of being a sludger but checking the date of production it isn’t.
I ran a single ARX clean and rinse as Frank specifies.
At 120100 miles I added the juice with new dino plus a fresh Wix 51348 and PCV valve, then ran it until 1231656 miles.
At 121656 miles I replaced the filter with a Factory F08 filter and fresh GTX 10W-40 for the rinse between 7-16-05 and 9-10-05. Inspection of the rinse filter showed nothing abnormal, just the usual amount of smear-able stuff that others have shown here many times.
I replaced the filter with another factory F08 filter and added 5 Oz’s of LC-20, 2 Qts. of Mobil 1 5w30 and about 2.8 Qts. of Mobil 1 0W-40 @ 123651 Miles. There was no thought here, it was just what I had available at the time and it fit the weather conditions we had then.
In the overview considering the above I have monitored the fuel economy very closely. It is obvious to me the she lost an O2 sensor after about 3 tanks of refills since this started.
Long story short it is fixed now with the aid of a ScanGauge, & troublecodes.net; it was obviously just a coincidence, to me not related to the treatments I was doing, or at least I believe this to be true. Add comments if you will.
I just checked the compression tonight to compare it to what I started with.
Prior to the ARX I read:
Cyl. 2 = 200
Cyl. 4 = 200
Cyl. 6 = 203
Tonight I read:
Cyl. 2 = 204
Cyl. 4 = 204
Cyl. 6 = 203
Factory spec is 218.
This is read after several cranks and using a Lisle tester, not a leak down type. Yep, I know that this isn’t a really great test but it is what I have available. I think that the results show an improvement in uniformity if nothing else, but the results may be within the limits of the accuracy of the gauge and hence not valid.
The plugs that I can get to show very clean combustion even though the car has not been running in a closed loop configuration much of the time that this has been happening.
I’ve done the blotter tests since and with the very clean results I think that this engine is clean.
OK, with the above information that I have to offer there is the question that is being begged I think.
Is this Camry needing a second dose of ARX even though it is showing a good response to the first treatment?
Frank, if you see this, I know what you’ll reply with; I don’t need your canned reply, so spare us all if you can. If not that is fine too. I type this with the utmost respect for you, your product and integrity. I hold them all in high regard.
But to the populace here on this forum, what are your perspectives? Am I struggling too much to try to glean some understanding?
