Army’s nuclear comeback

Some of the discussion has centered around providing local power for data centers. The companies are saying they can provide local power and not disturb the existing area grid. The data center construction is already way ahead of getting local mini nuke plants approved and running though. How much is PR by companies wanting to construct data centers and marketing by companies wanting to sell mini reactors looking for a reason to be? I mean, none of these have really been proven yet. A first article running in Canada is what I read the Air Force is basing their contracting decision on.
How many people are going to want these mini plants in their area?
Data centers are a huge strain on portions of the grid. They have schedule coordinators that will ramp their load up/down on a whim due to market conditions. If the localized area is in need of fast ramping generators (like hydro units) they have a difficult time responding. This would be the 10b portion of the ACE equation for a specific balancing authorities frequency response contribution.
