Arizona Black Rattlesnake!

I called the local game and fish office that day to find out how to dispose of the snake. It was already in the garbage can at that point but I wondered if that was okay. She told me to throw it in the garbage.

Even though I was pretty sure it was a Mohave Green she said go ahead and send a picture. She confirmed it.
I've never seen a bear or coyote attack anyone, not that they haven't I've just never heard of it in our area. These snakes on the other hand will bite and kill people. They can't be near people, they are hard to see and easy to step on.
100 % not true. If you can't stand rattlesnakes do not live where rattlesnakes live. Try western Washington or the northern part of western Oregon. Coyotes and bear do in fact track and kill people. Oops, coyotes and bear live in Washington and Oregon. I have $ 100 that says you have never been attacked by a rattlesnake. I live around them and I have never been attacked by one. I do pay attention to where I put my hands and feet.

Venom or poison doesn't matter. All that matters is that if it isn't killed on site the next person that comes along and doesn't see it may be bitten.
Do you also propose killing all other wild animals that people come in contact with? Bears, coyotes, bison, etc.? Because if not, the cognitive dissonance is alive and well. If you do, you should seek professional help.

Out riding in the woods this morning on the mountain bike and came across this fine specimen. A 3 foot Arizona Black Rattlesnake stretched across the trail. He started to move off when I went back to get a pic then he gave me a little warning when I was 8' away. The Black is somewhat rare, I've seen 3 live and 1 dead in the same general area so I guess there's a thriving population there. This was deep in the forest and he went off to live his life. This is why we don't let our dogs run off leash when hiking here. A neighbor lost a beautiful German Shepard last summer to a snakebite because she likes to let her dogs run.

Where was this trail?

Imagine killing an animal that's not bothering you at all. Hunting/food and self defense aside, killing something because it scares you is meh.

Bears don't go out of there way to kill lower scaled animals or people unless it's for food or self defense. I always say animals are more socially intelligent than humans. They kill to eat and only for self defense/when provoked. Imagine, you're in another species habitat, its home, and you behave this way.

If you have a farm, or ranch, and have certain live stock etc, then sure I get it, but outside of that, you need to think things through.

Man, guess the buzz tails are endangered in some places - but there are hundreds in places I go -
Mostly WDB’s … Gordon Lightfoot had a rule!

I wish people showed the same level compassion for what’s being eliminated in the Everglades when the apex predator (snake) gets out of control …

I worked with a licensed psychologist who had a pet tarantula.
He had pictures of it in his hand.
At least a tarantula is neither poisonous nor venomous.
Tarantulas are venomous, and their venom can cause pain and other reactions in people. Their venom isn't as dangerous as some old horror movies portray, though.

snakes like gators know just a few things to feed, survive and mate. all 3 of which lead to aggression no thanks. a snake doesn't know what a foot is walking through a trail of leaves and twigs they sense movement and body heat it could be a rat for all the snake knows and bang a leg or ankle strike.
This is a gross understatement of snake physiology. The venomous snakes of the united states are almost all viperids (except for the elapid coral snake) who detect body heat through infrared wavelengths. In combination with sensitivity to ground vibration and and very acute sense of smell they are able to hone in on prey significantly more efficiently than other snakes and in doing so, can distinguish non prey larger animals well too. That "survive" instinct leads them to more often flee because even if they bite, it is not immediately incapacitating and they are more likely to be killed in the aftermath.

For non venomous sight and smell based snakes, they are still able to see and smell that we are not something they want to tango with.

If you ever wondered why they're called Pit Vipers, it is because they have IR detecting pits under their eyes.

As a society we rid ourselves of those who are a threat to others so why would you give a rattlesnake a pass?

I've actually had to kill several rattle snakes here in Kentucky. A couple years back I even had to kill a sick six foot long black snake that kept coming after me. While you may pay attention to where you step that doesn't mean that the next person or little kid will be so lucky.

Search "will a black snake attack a human" and read the first 100 hits. Sounds like you have ophidiophobia and see every snake as dangerous and out to get you.

Speaking of tarantulas there was a palm sized one a couple of houses up the street the other day after a rain. It was crossing the street and the 2 young boys that live there were so excited to see it. They ran down the street to tell me about it and come look. The parents were out as well after the boys found it and they watched it cross the street and continue on it's way across the next yard. It didn't die either.

Not a great photo, it really blends in with the landscape rock.

If you’re taking about jail/prison, then those are a threat by conscious efforts. If someone is defending themselves, most places generally have self defense laws that protect them. Rattlesnakes aren’t going around biting people for fun. This might be one of the dumbest comparisons I’ve seen in my 42 years on this planet and in 12 years of teaching MS/HS. I strongly urge you for the sake of yourself to stop posting things like this.

I have never been afraid of a snake but spiders on the other hand have to be taken care if by the wife. I've actually caught and handled a rattle snake when I was younger but if I ran across that spider I would probably just run for my life. Everybody tells me it's funny to see a full grown man panic over a spider 🤣

What makes a person try to run another in the ground over a random internet post? What is there to gain? Surely my comments don't bother you that much.

If you ran across this spider you're probably have an aneurysm and drop dead. If you held it in your hand it's legs would be on the edges of your palm.
Sometimes I think God made spiders just to torment me. It's the only animal I just can't handle. I would rather be in a pit of snakes than have that thing touch me. At least my wife is always entertained by my fear of spiders. My daughter had a couple of those big spiders years ago, she's nuts for having those as pets.
