Arizona Black Rattlesnake!

I called the local game and fish office that day to find out how to dispose of the snake. It was already in the garbage can at that point but I wondered if that was okay. She told me to throw it in the garbage.

Even though I was pretty sure it was a Mohave Green she said go ahead and send a picture. She confirmed it.

I've never seen a bear or coyote attack anyone, not that they haven't I've just never heard of it in our area. These snakes on the other hand will bite and kill people. They can't be near people, they are hard to see and easy to step on.

100 % not true. If you can't stand rattlesnakes do not live where rattlesnakes live. Try western Washington or the northern part of western Oregon. Coyotes and bear do in fact track and kill people. Oops, coyotes and bear live in Washington and Oregon. I have $ 100 that says you have never been attacked by a rattlesnake. I live around them and I have never been attacked by one. I do pay attention to where I put my hands and feet.

Venom or poison doesn't matter. All that matters is that if it isn't killed on site the next person that comes along and doesn't see it may be bitten.

Do you also propose killing all other wild animals that people come in contact with? Bears, coyotes, bison, etc.? Because if not, the cognitive dissonance is alive and well. If you do, you should seek professional help.

Out riding in the woods this morning on the mountain bike and came across this fine specimen. A 3 foot Arizona Black Rattlesnake stretched across the trail. He started to move off when I went back to get a pic then he gave me a little warning when I was 8' away. The Black is somewhat rare, I've seen 3 live and 1 dead in the same general area so I guess there's a thriving population there. This was deep in the forest and he went off to live his life. This is why we don't let our dogs run off leash when hiking here. A neighbor lost a beautiful German Shepard last summer to a snakebite because she likes to let her dogs run.

Imagine killing an animal that's not bothering you at all. Hunting/food and self defense aside, killing something because it scares you is meh.

Bears don't go out of there way to kill lower scaled animals or people unless it's for food or self defense. I always say animals are more socially intelligent than humans. They kill to eat and only for self defense/when provoked. Imagine, you're in another species habitat, its home, and you behave this way.

If you have a farm, or ranch, and have certain live stock etc, then sure I get it, but outside of that, you need to think things through.

I wish people showed the same level compassion for what’s being eliminated in the Everglades when the apex predator (snake) gets out of control …

Why Didn’t you kill it

Because they eat rodents that transmit diseases plus keep the rodent population in check. Rattlesnake typically aren't aggressive as if they feel vibration in the ground they scoot out of the way.

I worked with an engineer that had a pet snake. That guy was weird.

I worked with a licensed psychologist who had a pet tarantula.
He had pictures of it in his hand.
At least a tarantula is neither poisonous nor venomous.
