Arizona Black Rattlesnake!

Before we were married my wife's Dalmation was killed by a banded krait in her yard. The dog got between her and the krait. That same farmhouse is where we are going to retire to. She said we have to get a snake dog as there are still cobras, kraits, and venomous grass snakes in the farm fields surrounding the house. Cobras commonly grow to 17 feet long and like to eat cats by the way.

I have to disagree with the don't kill a poisonous snake crowd. Those snakes are dangerous.
Very few snakes are poisonous. Keelback and some garter snakes. The one in OP and the ones people are posting about are NOT poisonous.

Okay so poisonous isn't the correct word.

From calpoison.org :
A venomous animal has defense mechanisms, like fangs or a stinger, used to inject a toxin into another organism. This animal bites or stings to deliver its venom to defend itself from harm.

A poisonous animal secretes poison from its body. This animal's poison has to be inhaled, swallowed, or absorbed through the skin by another organism to expose that organism to its poison.

Many moons ago I taught jungle survival and I've lived in third world countries where they ate the larger varieties and we were expected to participate. They do not taste like chicken. The large lizards were more palatable. Maybe it's an acquired taste or maybe it depends on how hungry you are. Still, much better than eating bugs or grubs.

Let's say you have a build up around the house, where the kids play. Yes, agree.

Trail, way out in the sticks. No point.

Just generally killing native species ALWAYS has negative consequences
This. I kill them around my house (two in 21 years). Both times I had elderly dogs that were some combination of blind, deaf, or clumsy -- I hear this describes @Pablo too 😅

Sorry, I'm going to protect my pack. But out in the middle of nowhere, nah. Leave the snakes alone.
