Always a boogeyman. China, China, China fearmongering must persist. Forget the fact that one of their aircraft carriers is built on an old cruise ship hull, that their GDP is collapsing as is there population and they haven't won a war in 100 years and are boxed in by the first island chain.

Lets assume that the Chinese TikTok propaganda premise is true, what that has to do with Google, Facebook, open AI and all of the other data centers being built by private corporations?

How are these private companies going to challenge the Chinese government? I would like to know that.

I am against them. They are noisy, use lots of water and too much power.

I am also afraid of the A.I that comes with it.

I think it's to create a roadblock in deployment. Not that it seems to be working very well, but planting the seed in the general publics mind that data center = bad is still something. I know someone who said they don't use AI because it uses up water, I told them taking a shower too long probably uses more water, meanwhile they have a swimming pool in their backyard and fill it up weekly due to evaporation lol.

Russians were supposedly behind the efforts to stop and slow down an oil pipeline to the Pacific in Canada. It would compete with their prices, likely reducing them. All they have to do is enrage a few tree huggers with nothing better to do and or finance/create a few orgs and soon you have roadblocks and news headlines.

I don't think this will happen, or be forced on anyone, not in the US.

Plus, tracking a chip in your body would require an external power source and transmitter/receiver to activate and communicate with it. Ain't happening.

Going on more than 20 years now, the big tech companies have all been not just complicit, but active members of the surveillance program monitoring foreign activity in the US. The government has propped up these companies because they are basically acting as an information-gathering arm of the US government (and really the Five Eyes countries). This was leaked out over ten years ago, how they were gathering WAY more information than anyone knew about (through the PRISM program) and how much of it was on ordinary normal Americans (because they were collecting way more information than even they knew what to do with).

The whole data center construction surge is just a way to give them more means to do so.

So far I will vote in favor of them with ONE, well TWO conditions. #1) ZERO pollution at all. #2) ZERO, absolutely ZERO increase in the residential consumers power bills from the electrical companies. Many of these data center companies and energy companies are saying right now - no new charges because the data center companies will be providing their very own sources of power. RIGHT. I need to see this a few places to believe this. What say you others about this power story.....?
