Now experimenting with different weights and brands.
I had a 95 jetta for 13 years with a nasty leak I couldn't
fix. I used the cheapest dyno on that for many years.

Use whatever.. Except filters. Generally just use Napa Gold. They are good, an inexpensive.. Why use anything else?

I used Mobil 1 from 1988-2000 exclusively {about 250,000 miles of driving}, and from 2000-today Redline only for motor oil, ATF, PS and gear oil{for about 227,000 mils of driving}

Used to use Castrol GTX in my Truck and Mobil in my wifes car. Then the "Synthetic craze" hit and I started trying new oils and now Iam totally off the wagon, I ussually have no less than 5 different oils on tap and treat oil changes like a fat kid in a ice cream store and dont know which one to choose. I am to the point it takes me longer to decide what oil, I want to use then actually doing the oil change. Id really like to become brand loyal again, but the oil companies are so competive and with stores like Advance, Autozone, Pepboys and Walmart all running so many specials on so many oils, It aint happening. I dont mix oils, so now I have all my oil brands devided by 6's into oil change kits, Oh, yeah, I am sick.

I will stick with a brand that works well from a company I have no particular issues with. I also respect the marketplace, however, and if a truly superior product comes out, I will switch. I don't really understand things like "buy American" etc when our country is based on competition and a free market place that leads to the best products. Lazy, blind brand loyalty leads to a lack of innovation.

About the only product I am brand-loyal on is gasoline, where I try to only buy QuikTrip fuel. And oil filters...I think I am stuck on P1s. I just can't seem to find a better quality-per-dollar filter.

Not so much on the extended beater fleet. If they have no remarkable service, they get what's cheapest changed on a semi-annual basis.

My "normal" OCIs and driving patterns lend themselves to whatever licensed/spec'd fluid is on sale when skulk through WW or AAP on my way home from work.

I like to choose something that is decent and stick to it. It is really hard to find the information needed to make good decisions about things like oil and filters. For years I ran Pennzoil YB and AC filters. When I couldn't find AC's I often ran Fram, ST, or Purolator. Last year, I realized buying Purolator helps keep German fat cats in their cream. More recently I decided OPEC might get less of my money if I went to synthetic and a longer OCI. I also decided XOM is an American company and went with M1.

I am still using the Prestone antifreeze and brake fluid I started using in the 60's when I first owned a car.

I like to stick to the same thing, so if there is a problem, I know what caused it. In the late 80's, I back slid and used QS oil for a while and found a terrible mess of sludge. Most likely, it was due to excessively long OCI and may have started while I was using Pennzoil, but I can never be sure.

Not brand loyal at all, I mostly shop by price, but sometimes I just like to try something different, but I will still be on the lookout for sales.

I still have two jugs of PP, and at the rate I put miles lately it will be almost 1.5 years before I use it up and I already have an itch try something else, man before I joined BITOG I never had such problems

I use nothing but Motorcraft [blend and sometimes Full Synthetic] in all my 4.6 cars.

I am brand loyal, but only based on performance. Perhaps more like "product loyal".

By that I mean:

- I don't buy whatever is cheapest
- I don't buy whatever is made by X company even if it isn't a good product.
- I'm not a fanboy of any brand
- I don't try a new product every time


I research and select what product has the properties I want and then seek that out every time I buy. I'm not afraid to try new things, but I don't do it willy-nilly.

I typically use GC in my BMW, but that's the only Castrol product I use. If I want HDEO it's Esso XD3 or Rotella. If I want gear oils it's typically Redline (MTL and 75W90). ATF for use in ATs - Amsoil. ATF for use in power steering has been left over Redline D4ATF (I think the esters are good for keeping things sealed - never a steering gear leak in any of my cars - clearly I don't need Redline's other performance advantages for steering). Two stroke oil - Amsoil.
