Topic says it all. Given the sale at Advance Auto at $8.88 each, wouldn't it make sense to just buy the M1-EP if it lasts longer? But the question is, does it *really* last longer? Does it really filter better than it's standard M1 sister product?

It just seems odd that both products are always at the same price. Why offer two products at the same price point if there's no extra value to the more upscale product? ...and it's the same price? I like the M1 filters, but this is a confusing marketing tactic.

At $8.88 per qt what value is there ? 4 times less wear than a $2.22 per Qt.oil? Will it last 4 times longer ? $ times less wear ? Most of $2.22 oil shows 5,000 miles uoas without much of a problem.

I don't think that they offer two filters. IIRC, there is just the M1 filter. The old one was white (IIRC, I never bought one) and the new one is black. $8.88 is not bad for this filter. That price brings it (more) in line with PureOne in comparative value for performance.

Their web site offers info on only one filter and (I just checked) the one that I bought when AA had their last sale (a long time ago, relatively speaking) there was only M1 EP filters offered on the shelf (back then it was $9.95)

I think Mobil has figured out that the market isn't going to pay THAT much for a top tier filter.

I'm confused on this thread here- are we talking about oil or filters? AFAIK Mobil oil filters are all the same level and there is no "EP" series of filters like there is with their oil. Maybe we are talking about the difference between their old, now outdated line of filters that are still on some shelves. These were in grey and green boxes and the filters were either white or grey. Ther new ones that I have seen and used are all in black boxes and the filters are painted black as well. I like the new color better. I wonder if they flow and filter better than the previous series.

The newer filters have "Extended Performance" on them ..but it's the only filter currently offered. It's easy to miss/pass over since it's right below the black M1 in white lettering with a silver/yellow background (part of the two yellow road stripes that sweep across the M1 block).
