I completely understand how GM's OLS works but have a couple of questions about the DIC & resets.

1) Is the mileage/hours when the "change oil soon" notification is initially displayed on the DIC stored?

2) Is the mileage/hours of when the OLS is reset stored as well?

ECM Codes on 1995 OBDII and Later codes are Stored. Earlier ones, you can flash erase them and read with Scan Tool.

I dont see why the OLM would store the resets. But thats just my two cents, cant find icon.

My guess would be yes so the dealer can see if your actually changing your oil. My owners manual says every 7500 and then it also says go by the oil change minder. So it's kind of confusing.

Without bein on this thread too much, since i dont know the answer specifically.. sounds like "Look at the Oil Change Minder as a reminder, like the sticker on the windshield of days past, and when it tells you change OR 7400 miles comes, bring it in."

Good point about the checking. All cars have Black Boxes now too so they can tell if you were on the brakes from 30MPH or on the gas at 80MPH in a crash a la drunk, right? (Just random examples. Ouch!)

The OLM (atleast GM's) does not have a memory to track oil change resets. It is not a part of OBD2, so there are no "codes" to find.

HOWEVER - Onstar does detect resets and actually plots it on a chart for you to download on your account at Onstar.com. So as the Onstar checks your vehicle , it notes that a reset has occurred and stores it on their servers for you to review.
