Are MVNO'S the same

Simple mobile, is this throttled?
20 Mbps is pretty darn good. You are not throttled/your speed is not limited. I think we need to add another "term' to dishdudes well written post above^^^. Many secondary providers will have lower "high speed data" speeds then regular network providers (ATT, Verizon, TMobile).

SO lets call the above post, 1. Throttle, 2. Limited 3. Network prioritization (which by the way even ATT, TMobile and Verizon have network prioritization with their own customers as I posted some info on this directly from their websites above)
1. throttle - once you run out of high speed data
2. limited - high speed data at a slower speed then other customers on the same network but still most likely will not notice the difference except possibly in very rare cases. ATT owned Cricket is one of these and doubt they would be so successful if 8Mbps was too slow.
3. Network prioritization - I think just about every cell phone company uses these words, including ATT, Verizon and TMobile for their customers (links to some of it posted above in my posts) Even when I had TMobile Home Internet service, those words are in the "Terms Of Service"

Where I dont agree with dishdude is generalization of "super low cost" (and the purpose of ALL my posts in this thread) as RedPocket is the lowest of the lowest of the low cost providers and highest speed of the highest of the highest secondary services nor can I subscribe to the "crowded event theory" anymore then if you had service with a major provider. In the last 10+ years of using secondary providers I never experienced an issue like that and assume that goes for any provider if there is an issue. But hey, we just go with whatever we are comfortable with, having options is nice.

Time of day, distance to tower and your device itself will determine speed. Keep in mind, ATT prepaid low cost service called Cricket makes it known right front and center under their pricing plans they give you 8Mbps of data which is high speed and PLENTY fast enough for cell phone service. Granted as time goes on seeing 8Mbps of speed is getting a little "tired" but not really for any good reason yet.

IIRC, RedPocket used to be good but went down after Tracfone owner bought it.
My son uses RedPocket on TMo. Even though he has the annual card, he keeps getting messages at the end of the month that his plan is expiring.

I have tried different att MVNOs and while all of them are similar with regards to the phone service, customer service is whole another ballgame. I use AirVoice Wireless ($10/month plan), att MVNO, and happy with them, better among the bunch.

I've been using RedPocket AT&T for 3 1/2 years and I have never received a message that my plan is ending at the end of the month. Additionally, I have dealt with their customer support and was satisfied with my interaction with them as well as their response and solution.
I looked at AirVoice, they are high. For $10/month you are only getting 250 talk minutes, OR 500 text messages, and zero data. For only $7/month ($84/year) RedPocket AT&T offers 1000 talk minutes, AND unlimited text messages, AND 1gb data. This is more than enough for most people who have access to WiFi at home and/or work.

I haven't heard or seen any proof that Tracfone bought or owns RedPocket. Tracfone DID buy PagePlus, but I just searched and found no evidence that they purchased RedPocket.

Give us an update on how it worked out for you in a few days ...
I finally got my number ported over. Tracfones fault......took way longer than it should have. I Haven't talked to anyone yet but I made a few calls to different companys that have automated operators and the call quality is good. I got the $8.25 annual Verizon plan but should have got the monthly plan to see if Verizon with Redpocket was any better than it was with Tracfone. Can I can switch over to AT&T if I'm not happy with Verizon or do I have to wait for the annual plan to expire ? Also do they alert you when your annual plan is about to expire ? I'll give a review after month. Thanks Guys

Also do they alert you when your annual plan is about to expire?
They do not. You can see the expiration date if you logon to your account but they don't email or text you. IMO this is something that they should be doing.
Also, a word of warning, when you purchase another year renewal through eBay, if you apply it early they will TRY to rip you off. This happened to me. I applied the next year I purchased to my plan and it came up as expiring one year from the date that I applied the renewal, not added to my current year that had not as yet expired. It was only 3 weeks, but it is 3 weeks of service that I lost. I called them and they fixed it on the spot. This may have just been a problem/oversight on their website programming, and it may have been fixed, but watch out for this. Their website leaves a lot to be desired.

I have a monthly family plan which I always do because I love the freedom of never being tied down to any company for more then 30 days at a time and why I’m no contract cell phone owner.
I can switch providers like I buy gas for my truck, not stuck with anyone and still with Redpocket should be a strong testament for Redpocket been with them 5 years or more now. Never a problem any more then any other company.
Ps I have no idea if you can switch once you buy a full year service but I would not think so. You could always ask though.

I just talked to RP and they said If I want to switch over to AT&T I just need to buy a plain At&t Sim card for $5. I also asked about getting a text message before your plan expires. They said they text you 7 days and again 1 day before expiration.

No, It means that your phone connects to the local wifi that is within range or access and uses that to either supplement or replace the cellular connection.

So it's not the same wifi that you use at home but wifi thru the phone company ?
No, it’s using whatever wifi network you’re currently connected to. For example, I don’t get any service in my downstairs living room on T-Mobile, but I can call my wife since I’m connected to my home wifi while she is out and not connected to any wifi.

So you use it where you cant get service but does it improve call quality where you do get service ?

You are right. I made a mistake. I got confused between PagePlus and Red Pocket.

He has been getting it every month. The first time, he got the message, I talked to the customer service. They didn't give me the reason for such a message but suggested me to ignore it.

I know Airvoice is a little expensive but I have almost $200 on that account so until I use those minutes up, I can not switch. Now they don't allow to move the balance from one account to the other. In the past, I used to move my balance to my wife's account but not anymore and my phone usage has reduced significantly, hence just piling up the balance.

Warstud, on last thing about wifi calling. Your phone or handset has to be able to support it. Check the settings on your phone, or look the make and model to see how to enable it. Most carriers nowadays will allow it, but when it first came out some carriers tried to charge extra for it since many of the early handsets did not support it.

There are only three nationwide cell phone network: Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. A MVNO buys "time/data" in bulk from one of the aforementioned cell networks. Each MVNO has its own set of rules as to how it divieys up the time and data. In the end, read the fine print.
