20 Mbps is pretty darn good. You are not throttled/your speed is not limited. I think we need to add another "term' to dishdudes well written post above^^^. Many secondary providers will have lower "high speed data" speeds then regular network providers (ATT, Verizon, TMobile).Simple mobile, is this throttled?
SO lets call the above post, 1. Throttle, 2. Limited 3. Network prioritization (which by the way even ATT, TMobile and Verizon have network prioritization with their own customers as I posted some info on this directly from their websites above)
1. throttle - once you run out of high speed data
2. limited - high speed data at a slower speed then other customers on the same network but still most likely will not notice the difference except possibly in very rare cases. ATT owned Cricket is one of these and doubt they would be so successful if 8Mbps was too slow.
3. Network prioritization - I think just about every cell phone company uses these words, including ATT, Verizon and TMobile for their customers (links to some of it posted above in my posts) Even when I had TMobile Home Internet service, those words are in the "Terms Of Service"
Where I dont agree with dishdude is generalization of "super low cost" (and the purpose of ALL my posts in this thread) as RedPocket is the lowest of the lowest of the low cost providers and highest speed of the highest of the highest secondary services nor can I subscribe to the "crowded event theory" anymore then if you had service with a major provider. In the last 10+ years of using secondary providers I never experienced an issue like that and assume that goes for any provider if there is an issue. But hey, we just go with whatever we are comfortable with, having options is nice.
Time of day, distance to tower and your device itself will determine speed. Keep in mind, ATT prepaid low cost service called Cricket makes it known right front and center under their pricing plans they give you 8Mbps of data which is high speed and PLENTY fast enough for cell phone service. Granted as time goes on seeing 8Mbps of speed is getting a little "tired" but not really for any good reason yet.
