So i have always used google maps but recently i have been missing turns because google maps has been notifying my too late of an upcoming turn. So i decided to try out Apple Maps and it’s much better at notifying me in advance and multiple times of upcoming turns. Anyway i freaking drove way out of the way today because it turns out Apple Maps doesn’t cut off the person on the in car speaker phone to give me directions. It just stays silent. Google maps always cuts off the phone conversation to give me directions. Is there some setting I’m missing or is this normal?

It dings when a Turn comes up.

Also it should pop a banner up at the bottom of the screen.

CarPlay helps a bunch too.

I don't like being talked to while driving so I print Google maps. I can't tell you how many times a location is marked at wrong spot, and just crossing road to get back can be an hour. I've learned to Google exact building to make sure.

Another annoyance is when using paper or different digital maps, they all put different towns or markers on them. Or they call different names of roads instead of numbers. I used a paper map in Germany, and I'd come to a T with some small towns each way. Neither one was on the map just bigger cities. Can anyone figure out how to make usable maps?

If you use your Iphone with an Apple watch, the watch vibrates on your wrist when its time to turn.
Could be really handy on a motorcycle too. Leave the phone safe in the saddle bag while using the watch for navigation.

IN the past I havent been much a fan of Apple maps, call me crazy but I think they have come a long way and I use it exclusively almost all the time.

I don’t have an Apple Watch. It was just very surprising to me that Apple Maps didn’t talk out the directions when im on a phone call. Either I’m missing a setting or it’s a pretty big flaw in my mind.

I did use to have an android smart watch that would have the directions on it and it was very handy

How are you connected, wired or Bluetooth?
I've noticed that my Mazda has a several second delay when connected via Bluetooth, but is in-sync when wired to the aux port of my car.
I only use Google Maps, so I cannot speak to the difference between the two. But I have observed the behavior, so it may be impacting the timeliness of your prompts.
And it's a Bluetooth "feature" as one can really notice the sync issues if parked and watching a video on the device. The "antique" factory head unit delays Bluetooth content.

Are you using CarPlay? Check your settings on CarPlay

Is your screen so far out of the way that you don't see the map in your peripheral vision?

I prefer Apple maps to Google maps because it will prompt if there are traffic lights on the route. I haven't had the issue yet with the phone conversation conflicting with the maps directions. I wonder if there is a setting somewhere about that.

I dont have any screen in my car. I have a bluetooth pioneer head unit and i keep my phone in the cupholder. I strictly listen to any mapping service so ive become quite accustomed to how well there voice directions work.

I found this setting about speaking when the radio is on. Mine was off. Im going to try turning it in and see if it fixes it.

I had a messed up situation with Google maps one time it took me on the bicycle route, my old Pontiac didn't fit in well with the two wheelers & most of the paths were blocked off it was the longest drive I ever made to the place I was going, but I stayed on the bicycle route because I'm not a quitter.

Well that directions on radio setting didnt work. It still will not speak directions when im on a phone call. Nothing like having to watch the road and my phone gps and talk on a call😭

I used Apple maps for directions to the FLight 92 crash site in Pa. It kept taking me to entrances they had cleared to access the site after the crash. They were permanently blocked off. It was very frustrating being on a motorcycle. I ended up completely circling the site to find the main entrance.
