The Pennzoil Platinum I bought at Walmart on May 5 bears a printed date of "05APr 25." and doesn't claim to meet SQ. A few days after I bought it, Walmart reduced the price.

Yes, I've been in our local Walmart recently looking and all the oils are still SP rated. I'm not quite ready for an oil change so I'll wait it out for a bit.
 
Nah, I personally don't run 40 grade oil while tried it in my cars, absolutely no need to,
Bought two jugs of Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 last night while it's on sale.
You do realize it’s almost the same viscosity since you’re comparing a 3.5 HTHS oil to a 3.6 HTHS oil, right? Not saying you need to switch as the ESP 0w30 is excellent, but the gap between Euro 30 and 40 is small.

I do like C3/C2 oils and when tried 40 grade engines seem to be less responsive and ran hotter. Temp gauge showed same temp thou.
 
I noticed the Castrol EDGE Extended Performance was SQ, along with Havoline, Shell Helix Ultra, and a few others.

API shows 1456 products having SQ approval.

From what I've been observing in prices of oils locally and on Amazon, many many are being discounted. I think this is in anticipation of the bulk release of SQ oils across the board. I know Valvoline has had some huge discounts of oil on Amazon, especially from the Extended Protection line.

Looks like SQ will roll out 0w8 and 0w12 oil approvals, along with better fuel economy, LSPI protection, engine cleaning improvements, and an increase in baseline engine protection.

The ONLY aspect of the continued 0.9% sulfated aah threshold that Anita mentions is Gasoline Particulate Filter durability.

I continue to have a strong preference for thin and beefy.
 
It's always the testing that interests me.

Here with SQ we have Sequence IIH and Sequence VH to more greatly address engine cleanliness at high and low temps.

With SP, we might remember, it took a long time for oils to pass Sequence X, dealing with dispersement of small, dense sooty particles stretching timing chains.

Progress + durability + backwards compatibility makes this a win.

Yep - I think the lower end, mass-market GF-6 oils left a lot to be desired when you consider the needs of some powertrains.

Obviously this is most relevant if you’re driving a 2025 model year vehicle with a fresh TGDI powertrain design. Less relevant if you’re driving a 2010 model year vehicle with a port injected engine.
