Just went to meijer today all the Mobil 1 High Mileage Synthetic oil in QTs was all api sl only the 5.1 jugs was sn
I could understand them trying to sell the sm but
where did they get all this api sl?
Anyone know if its ok to use oil that old ?

It should be fine in both vehicles in your signature.
It may be better than current Mobil 1 since it's presumably a PAO oil.
I'd ask them to discount it due to it's age.

If it was the 10w30 or the 5w30 grades, then API SL is its current specification. This oil can't meet API SM/SN because its additive package is too robust. Hence, it may actually be current production.

There should also be a date code printed somewhere on the bottle which should tell you how old it is.

I believe all Mobil 1 High Mileage is still SL...I have never seen the HM in a SM or SN. I don't believe it is old. It just is still the current standard....Correct me if I'm wrong?

The 10w-40 grade is now API SN, SM, SL, according to mobil's website. That's possible because the additive limits for Xw-40 grades are higher than for Xw-30 grades.

I've never looked at the 40W only the 30W...Find out something new all the time...

The 10w30 would work for winter, just go easy until the oil is warm.

But I agree there are plenty of other good choices in the Xw30 class. How much did you pay for the Mobil 1 High Mileage?
