Rant time. You know, Walmart receives a lot of grief here (and among members of the general public) for their business practices. Canadian Tire can be worse.
When Walmart has an advertised rollback on oil, they almost always bring in a huge amount of it, and often have two pallets right on the floor, along with a full display. They do, sometimes, cheat a little bit with quantity when it's M1.
When Canadian Tire has a sale, unless it's GTX, if it's a really good sale, you're not going to get a drop unless you're there right at opening the first day of the sale. The last time they had PYB on sale, I was there a day after the sale began, and there wasn't a bit of 5w30 left, and only a couple of 10w-30. With the current PP sale, there is nothing left except empty shelf space. Their raincheck procedure is a huge hassle, even when they offer it.
When it comes to regular prices on oil (both synthetic and convention), Walmart and Canadian Tire truly suck. Their individual quart prices are particularly appalling.
A couple hardware stores here and a truck stop in Saskatoon beat both Walmart and Canadian Tire by $8 on the five litre jugs. RCWC sells the Mobil Super 1000 by the litre at around half that of Walmart and CT. Five individual litre bottles of Mobil Super 1000 regularly priced wind up being about $8 cheaper than one five litre bottle of any conventional at either WM or CT. Their Mobil 1 regular price is about $10-$14 cheaper than the regular price of WM or CT.
Trying to get an oil special from CT has caused nothing but frustration for me lately. I have had better luck at their sister store, Partsource. Their specials last for a month, so you don't have everyone there first thing Friday morning to clean out every drop of on sale oil.
If I were ever to go back to synthetic, CT is about the last place I'd be buying it. It's also the last place I buy conventional, too. Same goes for filters - they can stuff their overpriced Wall o' Fram. And it's pretty bad when I can get a bottle of Red Line SI-1 from an independent shop for $5 cheaper than I can get Regane from CT.
