That would be me. Got something good? I'm in.

But if it's just by brand name? Nah...

My goal wasn't so much as brand loyalty, but to find two oils that are easily available (at local stores) that together would sufficiently fill all of my motor oil needs.

Those two oils just happened to be in the SOPUS family. So, it has led to some loyalty.

Pennzoil Gold 5w-30 (trucks, van, motorhome)
Rotella T 10w-30 (everything else - L&G equipment, generators, tiller)

I am not but kinda have preferences to a degree.

#1 Castrol due to how good their gold bottle has run in my cars.
#2 Pennzoil but I'm annoyed that their Ultra is a failure times 2 and can't be found anywhere. Except online. Which I'm not desirous to buy it that way.
#3 Mobil Super Synthetic which runs very good in my Altima. Really like the price when on sale.
#4 Valvoline Which I may well get back to running this again. Especially their Maxlife Full Synthetic is very good.
#5 Havoline Very solid buy.

So I have my leanings for sure. But I know there are others out there that are very good too.

I am and probably should not be. I believe much of any "brand loyalty" to a motor oil greatly depends on a persons attachment to a vehicle. If they have named their baby....and keep it pristine....etc....then yes you probably will find they are brand loyal to a motor oil/wax/tire brand on and on for their baby.
I have been a Shaeffers/Kendall guy for quite sometime now. Why? It works.....an example I can share here that solidifies my "brand loyalty" just this morning......My 408 Stroker motor in the GTO on Mobil1/Amsoil will "clatter" a bit at startup after a month or so of sitting in the garage....On Kendall 10-30HM or Shaeffers 9000 10-30 it is quiet as can be at startup after sitting for a month+.
It has Kendall HM 10-30 in it right now. Fired her up and no clatter at all.
This with 2 MotorCraft FL1A remote mounted filters.
So yeah...I am brand loyal in the motor oil arena for my Silverado/GTO/Wife's Mercedes......but not my lawnmower/generators etc. They dont have names

Not loyal to a particular brand, but loyal to brands of quality/ brands that have worked for me.

I will pick some brands over the other, but wont just buy one particular name.

Not really, and I mix and match all the time and have never had a problem. I do avoid strange store brands and oddball brands I have never heard of. For example, I would never purchase motor oil at a Dollar store with some weirdo brand unless I was desperate.

I have used Amsoil, BP (Castrol), Chevron, Kendall, SOPUS, & XOM. I have a personal vendetta against Ashland so I do not use Valvoline anything (but that is not to say that Valvoline is not good oil). By and large they are all good oils these days and most times it boils down to personal preference versus an actual performance difference.
