I love these trucks and I am thinking about getting one around next year.
More than likely will just get the super cab, and not the super crew.

What are you getting as an average for gas milage?

Just trying to make sure I figure all the costs in before a purchase. I was thinking of just getting an FX4 F-150, but it gets about the same gas estimates and I like the Raptor way better. And if I am going to spend that much I might as well get what I want.

Edmunds had a 6.2L Raptor in their long term test fleet.

They averaged 12.7 MPG over 20,000 miles, with a best of 15.7 and a worst of 10.1. I believe it still holds the record for the worst average fuel economy of any long term vehicle they've had.

Customers of mine say anywhere between 10 and 13mpg with their 6.2 Raptors. They all say they bought them for what they could do, not for the mileage.

A person who knowingly buys a 10mpg truck has no right to moan when he pulls out his wallet to fill up his fuel tank every other day.

Actually most of the Raptors we see are constantly covered in dirt/mud. People also buy them because they have the softest riding suspension across the F150 range due to the Fox long travel shocks.

So that begs the question.. just how many illegals can a Raptor haul?

That'll look great parked in the driveway next to the CRVs...

If you're even asking about gas mileage you should probably buy something else. That'd be like me asking what kind of gas mileage my WRX got when I bought it - I couldn't (and still don't) care what kind of gas mileage it gets.

Though, it has gotten surprisingly OK gas mileage.

Depends on whether they fixed that pesky frame issue or not.

The fix for frame bending is simple, pre-run. All the bent frames have been due to owners abusing the trucks and not properly pre-running a trail before they go jumping over stuff at 100+mph. The trucks actually come with an owners manual supplement that says how to properly offroad a vehicle the way the Raptor was built for.

It's a completely useless vehicle as far as I'm concerned.

It has mile wide A/T tires (so no good at all in the mud), IFS (so no good at rock crawling / no articulation in the front) drinks gas (can't commute with it) and has less load capacity than my 13 year old Jeep Cherokee so it's a poor truck too

What's the point of it again?

Running Baja which is its own kind of animal.

Perhaps for for many, a factory built baja prerunner type of vehicle has a use. Just becuase it doesn't fit one persons view on being a useful vehicle does not make it a pointless vehicle.

Is it just me, or is every thread on this board starting to turn into a bashing of a product design or personal choice in vehicles, rather than accepting that vehicles can be purpose buit and that someone may actually have a use for something you don't and may never understand? I find it annoying and self serving that someone has any idea what somebody else needs in a vehicle.

As far as the Raptor goes, a gentleman I know around here averages about 12 MPG on his. I put this in the classification of if you have to ask the fuel mileage, you probably shouldn't own one. Flat out not what it was built for, and frnakly would be low on the list of requirements if I was in the market for one.

It is a good truck to play in the desert with. Gas mileage? If you buy one do not even think about gas mileage. Do not worry about parking a SVT Raptor in your garage, because attempting to park one in your garage may be more hassle than it is worth. My FX4 barely gets into the garage. I can not imagine a truck that is wider fitting in it.

"I was thinking of just getting an FX4 F-150, but it gets about the same gas estimates and I like the Raptor way better."

I have seen some owners posting about 8MPG and other posting up 14MPG. I average 17-19MPG with my 5.4 FX4 with mixed city-highway driving. So the Raptor could be getting as low as 50% the fuel economy. The ecoboost or 5.0 should get better fuel economy than my 5.4 under the same driving conditions. Also I have the optional 36 gallon tank, this is good when gas prices are down. So I would research your purchase of a SVT Raptor more and decide if this is something you are going to enjoy with the added fuel cost or would it be better to go another route. I like the Raptor's looks the 6.2 motor option I off-road in the desert but the Raptor would not be practical for my driving style and the added fuel cost would not benefit me also.

X2. There is no other stock vehicle that compares in the desert. Ford built it with that usage as the #1 purpose and I'd say they did a fine job.

If I had a lot of money to blow on a truck, I'd probably look at a Raptor, even with no deserts nearby. The local Ford dealers sell every one they stock, probably at sticker.

They seem like a great vehicle for those who drive a lot of poorly maintained gravel roads and private dirt roads to get to their well-paying jobs in the oilfield. The suspension probably works a lot better than the typical jacked-up full-sized truck.
