After ten trips to the doctor in as many months, with no permanent relief(prescription plus a few days), the wife and I have been talking about sinus surgery. I seem to have a simple grasp as to what is going on, and the lady in Texas I went to see when I got sick while home in December told me it would help, but would be more painful than birthing. Not knowing what that is like I assume it's bad. Has anyone had sinus surgery, and how did it work for you?

Been doing it for the last three days. Ozarka sport bottle. Can't really get in there deep enough.

Constant sinus pressure. Enough to cause what I think may be panic attacks. Clammy, dizzyness, walleyed or tunnel vision, thick saliva, and what feels like a 2x4 pushing on my head. I am pretty sure most of it is due to the pressure on the ears, hence the balance problems. But it hasnt gotten any better, and started in July when they planted rice, and hasn't gone away since. I did an allergy test, and was told that I was allergic to rice pollen, but they didn't say whether I was allergic to rice itself. Either way, it's not something I can stop eating. It gets bad enough that my knees, then lower back and ankles feel weak, the places that i have injured before.

you know my ears and sinuses were constatly giving me problems, this has justed started in the last couple years...Enough that the ear infection led to Vertigo...Not pleasant.
Anyway the doctor prescribed Augmentin which is an antibiotic, as well as prescription sudafed to dry out things. Along with that I use a prescription nose spray, on the bottle it is called Fluticasone Propionate, a nasal steroid I believe. To clear me up before I spray it in I use a over the counter nasal spray.
I can tell you, for me this is the first time in a couple years, I have been sinus headache free.

The problem nuke, is that I don't live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. I live where you don't question the doctor. The doctors I have seen have had to kick out the nurses and tell me in a whisper to double up the medicine because they can't give me enough for my body size. Getting more than 5 days worth of medicine is trying, and for the first time in 5 years, they actually gave me a month worth of medicine. It doesn't seem to be helping much, but at least I have it.
If the problem was curable in my current place of residence, by medicine freely prescribed long term, it wouldn't be a problem. But it comes back every year, at the same time, and stays longer every year. I have had sinus problems as far back as I can remember, but in the states, I only had problems twice a year, and the medicine took care of it on the first try. It is worse, and stays longer, and the medicine that I am given is different, but just as bad as the problem it is trying to cure. Hence the inquiry into a permanent(do it, and not have to worry about doctor's visits, drugs, side-effects, etc), plus, it will be much cheaper to do it here than in the US. There are some good parts to socialized medicine. Only have to pay 30% of the bill.

30%!!!! [censored] ,I pay only 10%...My grandfather had nasal surgery and this was many years ago mid 70's I believe for Polyps a growth in the nasal/sinus cavity, where they put in I believe Radium pellets...I know he went through some pain with that, though I am sure surgical techniques have improved...

Well, when I say 30%, you must also remember that everything is cheaper too. I have at most payed $10 to see a doctor, and my prescription for three different medications for a month, was about $20. A separated shoulder, including an ambulance rid, only put me out about $100 stat to finish.
How much in taxes though? 10$ co-pay as well...last prescription were 0.75 cents each...Though I imagine both systems have there good/bad...Many are not as fortunate here, and have little or no coverage.
not ongoing but i do have problematic sinusses.
sometimes depending on what i eat or drink before bed and they way my head is oriented some canals must block up and i get IMMENSE sinus aches enveloping one eye (always just one side).
as for surgery, the extra pain in the short term may be worthwhile in the long term. i've read that sinus operations are pretty brutal though.

My Dad had it done years ago, and from what I remember it was the recovery that was a bit tough for him.
The procedure itself was done under a general anesthetic. Unless there is more than one procedure, depending on what your suffering with, he had his nose....um.....marginally disrupted and the clearing of the sinus cavities was done at that point. I believe they are enlarged at the same time.
He still has seasonal sinus flareups, but nothing that does not effect a number of us. The majority of his problems is long gone!
So the procedure is a bit rough, but you wont be awake for it, be prepared for a bit of recovery discomfort, but it should solve your problems.
There may be a different procedure, but this is what I'm used to.

Are you sure you don't have a vascular issue, like cluster headaches ..effectively, migraines that occur in "clusters" Except for the usual nausea, you've got all the symptoms. Some "trigger" ..thickening mucous ..
any sensitivity to light? Mine were all focused on my sinuses. I wanted to drill a hole in my head.

I had some sensitivity to light, more to sound though, and yes, ventilating my head would have been a great relief. It's not a cluster headache, because there is no bloodshot, and it happens all across the forehead, and under both eyes.

I had it done back in 1992. I suffered from constant headaches,sinus infections,ect... It is by no means pleasant to recover from but given my condition before the operation I would do it again in a second. It has been very successful.
How long did recovery take, and what kind of pain is it?
