Greetings everyone,My name is Bob Richardson from NY and I'm new here. I got this Site from one of the Corvette guys. My 6-speed calls for a ATF transmission fluid. I did switch to Red Line MTL with great results (no more gear lash)...but...I'm worried about the soft metal issue.I am about ready to try Royal Purple Synchromax. They state that it is recommended for manual transmissions that specify an automatic transmission fluid or motor oil.I hope it's everything I'm looking for in a trans oil.

There really is no "soft metal" issue as far as I know. I think you should be good to go with the MTL.

Edit - You want to get the juice analysed and post the results here, if you have concerns.

vette#one, I agree with the others, there is no "soft metal" issue with Red Line MTL. It's a non-corrosive GL-4.

However ...

Red Line used to (and still does) recommend MTL to replace a wide range of fluids but they recommend one of their ATFs for manual transmissions asking for an ATF. I'm pretty sure I read it on their site.

I'm pretty sure they only recommend their D4ATF in apps that call for ATF because of the possibility of MTL being stiffer shifting when cold.

Their website does say this also:
quote:

The D4 ATF will provide better low-temperature shiftability, and the MTL would provide better wear protection for racing use.

The pdf file also says this
quote:

The D4 ATF provides the best low temperature shiftability. MTL® provides better wear protection in most manual transmissions which call for an ATF

I already purchased the Royal Purple. I might as well give it a try. It sounds like it might be similar to Red Line MTL. It's not an ATF fluid, but it is designed for manual transmissions that call for an ATF fluid. If I am not satisfied I will go back to the MTL. I used the MTL before, and I would highly recommend it.I have the D4ATF Red Line in it now.(Just had the transmission rebuilt)
