Anyone doing a 'frankenbatch' of oil?

LS Jr. showed in a video that changing over from one oil to a new oil can result in slightly elevated west numbers . After the 2nd consecutive fill of the same brand / type oil the wear numbers returned to normal range. I now try to even top off using the same oil (if possible) that is already in the engine .

I mixed Mobil 1 with some Mobil 2 and ended up with Mobil 3!
Wouldn't that be Mobil 1.5?

Intentional? I use a quart of HPL PCMO 5W-30 with whatever is going in a couple vehicles (PP Euro -L, Delo 5W-40, and others). I used the HPL EC30 in the same ones. The regular PCMO is supposed to be stronger for cleaning etc. Once my quarts of that are used up, I'll see what happens. 4 vehicles are currently on straight VRP, 1 on straight Delo 5W-40. CRV is due for OC in 1200 miles. That will be 1 qt HPL with either PP Euro-L or M1 triple action 5W-30.

The top off oils in vehicles that need it may be any leftover versions I have until some year if I only have 1 brand but even then maybe different weight.

As others have mentioned, mixing "Frankenbrews" is usually folks looking at a bunch of different VOAs here and picking one that shows the "best" TBN, another that shows the highest cst, another that has more moly in it, etc etc and just mixing them altogether. Doesn't work that way.

My STI uses Rotella and it rarely gets driven, so after 12-15 months, the oil usually has 1500-2000 miles.

Thanks to the fumoto valve, I drain it cleanly into a jug, and then use that oil on whatever, I call it Mobil Dos.
Typically on my WEN generator, or use it on my Honda (new 0w20 mixed with a quart of Rotella).

I’m going to have a few intervals in a row in my Corvette that will be a bit of a Frankenblend, but with oils of relatively similar chemistry. That’s because I currently have the 7 year old formula of 5W-30 ESP Formula in there. Then I have one jug of ESP 5W-30 that was produced in November 2023 so it is the formula that still used esters in the base. Then I have a jug of ESP 5W-30 that was produced in July 2024 so it would be the formula that doesn’t have esters in the base oil anymore. And then I recently bought a jug of 0W-30 ESP (which we know still has esters as part of the base oil blend). Since the Corvette takes 6 quarts at oil change time plus needs about a half quart for top up, I’m going to have a number of intervals with different mixes of these oils until I get to the point where I’m just running 100% 0W-30 ESP. But mixing any two of these oils together to finish them off shouldn’t be a problem, they aren’t radically different from each other, and my OCIs won’t exceed too much more than about 7000 miles.
