I had never visited DFW airport before. I was completely blown away by the opulence of that airport! It was better than most malls in my area and we do have some nice ones.

Who paid for that airport? How did developer convinced the city to fork that kind of money? How many people consider the connecting airport and the quality of stores or tonnes of granite and marble? This just seemed so over the top!

Is this typical Texas way and its oil money talking? Your connection through DFW depends upon you taking AA flight. You decide to take AA flight because it happens to have the best deal. Does anybody look at two flights and says, I will NOT fly through O'Hare but rather pay few hundred extra and go through DFW? I just can not see that happening!

Landing at Boston Logan from DFW was like coming back to Mumbai from Boston :-)

Love Field is a cute time capsule. Nice tilework from the 1960s or 1970s when they were THE big deal mixed with current concessions.

My sister lives down there; I like the fancy (architecturally) public library that looks like it was built during the 1970s. *cough, OIL, cough*

Infrastructure like train/bus/sea ports should IMO have some added niceness. Vincent Scully’s infamous reflection on arriving at the current (below grade) Penn Station: “You once entered New York City like an emperor; now you slither in like a rat.”

Of course if you deplane in Vegas you can hear slot machines while you're still on the jetway...

I've been there many times. Nothing ever stood out to me other then It had a small feel to it. I usually fly out of O'hare.

Lived here all my life. No idea how it got started.

However I do remember that after Sept 11th they got an additional 9 million, or something like it, for additional concrete blast barriers.

Man, how things have changed!
Remember when you could actually greet your guests at the gate as they departed the aircraft? Those were the days!

As I understand it, it was paid for in a joint effort by the cities of Dallas and Ft Worth. Even though it is not really attached to either city. (Ft Worth does have a tiny sliver between Arlington and Euless that touches DFW airport. I don't think Dallas touches it at all.)

Last time I checked, you could still see the remains of FtWorth's Great Soutwest airport that never could quite compete with Dallas' Love Field just south of DFW.

New Orleans' Airport is a lot like Dallas Love Field. Kinda' confusing when you come back from New Orleans still drunk and wonder if you are in the right airport or in the one you just left.

Once you get it figured out, it's pretty easy to navigate the airport park, and find your bags when you return. Much better than O'Hare or St Louis. (Seems like I had to walk 2 miles to get to the baggage claim at O'Hare)

I HATE Dayton....but flying into Dayton is literally 1/2 the price of Cincinnati (which is actually in Kentucky)

We moved to Arlington in 1949 when the population was about 7K. Probably hunted birds and such there where the AP is with my old trusty Red Ryder BB gun..

Arlington, by itself, has a greater population now than cities like St Louis and Pittsburgh (by themselves)

But DFW airport is north of what was Amon Carter Airfield (later Greater Southwest) That would be a heckuva hike from Arlington.

My dad used to hunt rabbits where they would later build Texas Stadium. A young man could ride the bus with a .410 shotgun and a couple of rabbits then and the only thing anyone would say is, "Someone's having rabbit stew tonight."

Do local people go to airport rather going to a mall? Is it a teenager hangout? Amount of granite and marble used on that airport is pretty impressive. We were travelling from New Orleans back to Boston. At least I was not stupid enough to try to walk between the two terminals!

Was this meant to be a joke?
