any reason I shouldn't consider this car?

No idea on reliability, but rented one several times. Shares a chassis with the Volvo S80 and is a nice driving car.

It looks to be a decent deal.
I like that itineration of the Taurus/Montego .
With gas getting close to $4 a gallon (and a government that doesn't seem to care) I might consider something more fuel efficient.

Looks like a nice car. They are certainly more plain looking than the current Taurus, but still a good looking car.

My neighbor has one of these and a Malibu from around the same year. The Taurus rarely moves, but the Malibu gets driven daily. I've never asked why. Both cars are kept very clean, the Taurus just seems to be a driveway queen.

My aunt has a Five Hundred with the non-CVT, has over 200k miles on it (she's a courier driver/sales rep for a biotech firm), and the only thing she's done to it is replace the alternator, and tires/brakes.

well, my mom just(Like Last Week) bought an '09 Taurus Limited w/ 30k mi for $17,500. So far, so good...
(was a Local Lease, all work done @ same ford dealer, lessee was retiree from the local Ford engine plant where they build the 3.5l v6)

I know She is gonna have to really watch her speed for a while,as She would find herself very un-intentionally speeding in the old car, and the new has 118 more HP.
Old car - 99 Taurus 3.0l "Vulcan" V6 rated @145HP
New car - 09 Taurus 3.5l "Duratec 35" V6 rated @263HP

Dad has an 05 Freestyle (AKA Taurus X, basically the wagon version of the Five Hundred), with the Duratec 3.0l and the CVT (AWD).
The only real problem we've had with it, was the main seal on the power steering pump failed around 50K...
largely the same body, but completely different power train, but I've ridden in it from Lima Ohio, to Dallas Texas with no real comfort complaints...

I don't know if I would call it "potent" acceleration but it's certainly more than adequate. Somewhere around mid 7s depending on which source you are using.

The 6F has somewhat of a reputation for turning it's transmission fluid real dark real fast but I haven't heard any problems from this yet.

only possible negative I'm seeing on the carfax is that it was a rental logging 24k in it's first 11 mo.

Though one would think any issues due to rental agency lack of maintenance/rental customers abuse, would have raised their head in the intervening 69k mi, or 3.5 yrs....

Well rated by Consumer Reports-some issues with the suspension and climate control. It has a strong motor and transmission.
Just have the suspension checked before buying it.
Should be a great car for the money-still looks brand new.

I have an '05 Freestyle. Same chassis as that car, but different drive train. The interior of my car is very similar (lots of parts interchange).

The P2/D3 Folvo platform is really nice. It's a light, stiff chassis and the handling is really neutral for what it is (a grocery getter). The seats are really comfy, driving position is good, the trunk has a ton of space, and the 3.5 Duratec and the 6F both seem reliable. Suspension issues are isolated to end links, which are both cheap and easy to replace.

If you're looking for a big sedan, I'd say that looks like a good choice.

I can't think of any... Also I have a CVT in my 06 Freestyle with no problems. I really want one of the turbo'ed Tauruses but I cant convince the wife...

From the comments section of the ad:

"WE USE A VERY SOPHISTICATED SOFTWARE TO PRICE OUR INVENTORY TO INSURE THE VERY BEST DEAL!!!!"

Thank goodness they have a computer or they might screw their customers on price!

Gheesh.

Looks like a deal, except... the Color (or lack thereof)!

I've had 4 Ford trucks, all of which had some version of Ford's famous old white color (or close to it), Colonial White (I think?)...

It's one of my favorite colors... for a Ford Truck.

For some obscure reason I think white is absolutely the most bland & un-becoming color for the "new" Taurus, and that it is a vehicle that really looks best in most of the darker colors.

Just a personal opinion: the price seems to be about right.

Cheers!

p.s. Since color is just about the least most important aspect of a used vehicle, don't let my prejudice against the color drive you away from a car if it is in outstanding mechanical condition! Any history as to previous ownership & maintenance?

CARFAX?

If you put dark tint on the white Taurus will look nice.

That is pretty much what 8K bucks buys today for a late model car..I would rather buy a late model higher mileage car then a low mileage older car..A lot of investigators use those Tauruses in my neck of the woods and they run just fine.

Looks like it is sold anyway as I do not see it listed anymore..If I was looking for a midsize car I would have considered it.

I bought a 2008 Taurus last fall that had 125,000 miles on it. I now have 137,000 miles on the car and I have not had any trouble whatsoever. I am pleased with the gas mileage for such a roomy car. I get between 27 and 30 MPG with mostly highway driving, probably 70% highway and 30% city driving. The first thing I did when I got the car was change all the fluids and replace the spark plugs. The only complaint I have is the interior tends to have rattles from the plastic trim. Ford could have done a better job with the interior trim.

Digging up an old thread to answer my own question.

I asked my neighbor about the cars, and it turns out the Taurus is his former company car that he bought off the company at a great price. The Malibu is his current company car, which is why he drives it all the time.

In regards to the Malibu, my neighbor said "I hate that car." Says it's not comfortable on long drives.

He likes the Taurus a lot. He says it's very comfortable with lots of room. His only complaint is that it's hard to keep aligned (our roads here are pretty rough).
