Any real harm to using Prestone Dex-Cool in Dodge?

I have in fact seen Dexsludge and a blown head gasket in a '00 Taurus that was periodically topped with Prestone AMAM.

Coolant_Man, do you have stock in Honeywell or something?

The dexcool thing is a bit overblown due to the internet.

Our fleet trucks are almost all open overflow tanks and we have no issues of any kind. Just pulled a 250k mile engine (6.0) and the coolant was as clean as could be, clear and no sludge of any kind.

The interior passages in the block are immaculate.

Note that we do no maintenance until something fails. That is routinely well over 150k miles or more. The entire cooling system is untouched for years.

Thats probably what most people do. LOL. Change the oil/filter and thats about it. Ha ha ha. Oh well.

It's not because we didn't try the crazy flush and fill thing. Used to change the coolant regularly, every 30k miles or so.

But we still had the exact same repair histories! Plus one of the consultants to our factory authorized aftermarket upfitter is an actual GM guy from the G van program. He told us that there would be no benefit to changing the dex, and he was right.

This may not apply to other platforms, but on GM v8's there is no real benefit to changing that coolant early.

Yes, but most people get around 50 to 100 thousand miles out of our platforms and then need a new engine! These are GM 3500 Savanas with 6.0 gas motors being used as stationary power! This means running at 15-1700 rpm all day long in addition to hauling their fat selves around (9200+ pounds!).

A consultant to our factory authorized upfitter who is a GM employee in the G van program advised us years ago that there was no benefit to changing dex early in these engines, and we have the records to prove him right.

We used to change coolant every 30k miles, and components actually last longer now with ZERO maintenance!

Not quite a year and about 7000 miles later, and no problems, gel like gunk or anything else funny going on that I can tell- no discoloration, sediment in the catch tank, etc...

my zx2 has been on prestone dexcool for 8-9 years..it has been perfect for me. probably the same for the dodge

I do not believe it either because there is a 97 Sunfire right now that my sister has with over 170K miles and for all I know the 2 nd fill of coolant that has some issues for a 16 year car but sludged dex-cool is not one of the issues.

checking back in something like 3.5 years later, and the Dex-cool in my pickup still looks good- bright orange, no gel, sludge or crud in the catch-tank, and no overheating problems yet.
