ANY problems with non-ecore Supertechs?

the M1-like non-ecore supertechs (specially the 7317) seem like really well built and excellent value to me... , lately I'm a bit tight on money and I don't take my PureONEs to their full potential anyways so I'm thinking of just buying a bunch of ST7317s...

Any problems? bad anti drain back valves? last thing I want is startup noise..

IF there the ST with steel center tube and steel end caps sure them are fine,IF there is a occurrence with media fold the threat of a blow out and media inhalation into the engine would be impossible with a steel tube.

but why not take your P1 out longer?

^Because I refuse to do long OCIs on my track car (specV), and my Subarus with all my heart, lol.

My beetle and XL-7 have bigger filters that would be e-core if I went with supertech..

I think the non-ecore ST are a good filter and good value. About as good as a Purolator classic, which is good enough, at a better price.

I hate the E cores as much as anyone but I use the Super tech ST7317 on my Polaris ATVs. I think they are a excellent oil filter as good or better than my favorite Purolator. If they would make their other oil filters as good as the 7317, I would use them.

I would go with the Purolator Classic in your case. They are only $3.49 at K-Mart. Can't really beat the value of the Classic IMO.

Bill's latest ST 7317 (Saturn Vue) dissection pics/thread is close to the top of the board, check it out. The ST 7317 non ecore is worth the ~$2.84.

Or as Busa suggested, if you have a Kmart nearby,you can grab a L14610 for <$0.75 more. Either way....

Before the Ecore, the ST was about the same inside as a Purolator Premium plus except it had a thread end bypass. Oh they didn't have a string around the media either. Unfortunately Champ cheapened all their filters by going to dome end bypass like Purolator and Fram.

Walmart also dropped a number of ST numbers. I haven't bought an ST since. For the price of a Purolator, you can get an STP. River Rat and I both compared an STP 3950 and an L 10193 and found little difference. So I see no reason to pay an extra buck for a filter little different that the ST's using the older construction.

When did ST have a threaded-in bypass? All the non-ecore STs I saw had a cheap plastic bypass painted metal colr like the Fram. I guess you are talking a long time ago.

Who makes STP again, I forgetting, Champion or Purolator?

5-6 years ago, I think all the Champ filters had thread end bypasses. Of course, the PF 47 never had one at all. STP is Champ, a good choice for those wanting to buy American.

I see, but aren't some STPs also ecores? How would they been any better than ST? I still think purolator filters are a little bit better than even ST non-ecore. Purolator has a lower-cost line too.

I would assume the 11 numbers Champ started the Ecore with and any they added since are Ecore across the board except for M1 and K&N. Some AC's seem to be late to the party. Old stock further confuses things. If I correctly interpreted the date code, the 2 SO 3950's were 2 years old. Bad inventory practice, lost and found, or make a run of a low volume item and sell it until you get low? I don't remember if I looked at other STP filters. I have looked at ST's and see no rhyme or rhythm to Ecore vs conventional.

Of the ST's and STP's I have cut open, they seemed about the same. However, I never even tried to evaluate the quality of the media. River Rat did and found STP and Purolator the same.

Well to complicate matters ACDelco are still being made classic style. I assume Champion is making them. So there are probably new ACDelco and ST floating around out there that are both ecore and classic style for the same filter number.

That's why I just go with Purolator and I know I'm getting non-ecore.
