Gernally speaking, will these oil provide better protection since they have more additives? And any down side of using these oil? I don't see a lot of discussion about this. Thanks!

Sorry, I am trying to edit my post to delete "since they have more additives", but it doesn't work... so please ignore my extra posts...

I would say with any vehicle you start cold with a 10 or 20w oil which most MC oils are you have a good chance of getting some blow by. Probably the best choice might be the HDEO's

The better question to ask is does the motor need more protection? HDEO oils are formulated to withstand the demands of commercial use in gasoline and diesel engines. We need to know what kind of engine you are talking about. To be realistic if the extra "protection" is not needed there will be no advantage in useing a HDEO or synthetic oil.

Rotella T 10w30 API CJ-4 is good from what I heard from a certain expert with insider knowledge. He described it as having near-synthetic performance.

i understood rotella is synthetic. is this the case?

No that oil is not synthetic. You may be thinking of Rotella T 5W-40 API CI-4 which is synthetic and quite a different oil, viscosity-wise and additive-wise.

Ding Ding Ding. Probably won't see much improvment with a HDEO in an automotive application. But it should't hurt. This site has proven to me that most cars can run thier entire service life on almost any oil.

I was looking at this oil for Auto-Rx, but I have difficulty finding this in my local area... wish they have a 5W30 version. I think it is near 12cst and should be pretty robust.

Kitto In Okc Walmart just dropped the Rotella 10w30

O'Reilly's currently has Rotella 10w30
Auto Zone can order it in.

I have no evidence or UOA's to back this statement up. I like the concept of a HDEO in my gas engines.
