Any new cars/SUVs under $30K worth getting?

Requirements:
- daily driver
- decent amount of interior space
- reasonably reliable
- not super boring to drive
- preferably no tiny 1.5-liter engine
- FWD/RWD/AWD
- manual or automatic
- available on dealer lot

My old 530i is starting to fall apart, costing me more and more to keep on the road. I'm starting to look for a basic daily driver to hold me over a few years before the supply chain stabilizes and I can get something more fun again.

I was thinking Nissan Altima, but I don't think I can get one in this budget.
Seemed like Nissan had disapeared for a while. Now all of a sudden , last 2 years they are back all over and they are real sharp looking. I find myself watching certain cars and when I can make out the brand they are lots of them, Nissan Altimas. You can do a lot of shopping and comparing + price hunting on the internet long before you step on a lot. That way you will likely know as much if not more than the sales folks.

Can't believe I'm saying this... But...
2023 Subaru Crosstrek.
Hear me out...
- It literally meets all of your requirements.
- Base model is $23,645, but it has a 2.0L boring slow engine, so I'm not even going to consider that one. But Sport and Limited models are still under $30K and come with 2.5L engine, which seems to be miles ahead of the old 2-point-slow powerpot. In terms of both power and reliability.
- Subaru also punishes dealers for markups, so you are more likely to get a fair deal in this market.
- Reliability seems to be great so far, but you seem to want to keep it for only few years. Meaning the warranty will easily take care of any issues that may arise, but are highly unlikely honestly.
- And these things are very fun off-the-pavement. Desert roads, forest roads, 4WD beaches, etc.
- Budget rally car lol.
TBH I've never really felt that our Outback is "too slow" with the same 2.5 so in the Crosstrek, it should move pretty good. The 2.4 turbo Legacy might be another fun AWD car to try? Don't know if they can be had for less than $30k?
I briefly drove a base '21 Legacy and was surprised how much stiffer the ride was than our Outback, and it had more of an old school, more connected to the road feel to me. The interior wasn't impressive but it was the base.

I could be wrong, and correct me if I am. But I believe the 2.5L in the Crosstrek is more related to the 2.4L Turbo in the Subaru Ascent, than it is to the 5th gen Outback. Supposedly more lively and more reliable, time will show the reliability part.
But that aside - everyone seems to be praising the 2.5L in the Crosstrek platform.

I've also been trying to find something to replace my Camry but decided to wait another year or two. Finally got new tires and brakes on the Camry. I'd like to get an electric/gas hybrid.

Who buys a new car to hold me over a few years before the supply chain stabilizes and I can get something more fun again? Isn't that what beaters are for?
I already have a beater, and something always needs fixing and I hate sinking in any serious money into a 20 year old car. With a new car, I'm hoping not to have to deal with these headaches. And if I like it, maybe I'll keep it longer.

My vote is for the CX-5. Pleasant vehicle for daily driving, nice interior, and good reliability at a reasonable price. Not the most exciting, but for the under 30k price range you're shopping in it's a solid choice.

The Mazda CX5 meets almost all your requirements. But it, like all SUVs, is boring to drive. I'd mention a Subaru Forester too but it suffers from the same deficiency.
"decent amount of interior space" - define "decent". A Mazda 3 is more fun to drive than a CX5, especially in stick shift, and in your price range. The hatchback isn't exactly roomy but it has a decent amount of interior space.
Is it available on the lot? I didn't think so.
I think I am the only person so far that has made a suggestion that the OP can actually go to the dealer's lot and actually buy.
